Maira is an actress and lives in Mumbai. She feels that the Indian Education system needs to revamp itself and should be more job-oriented and career-centered.

Maira Doshi is from Rajkot, Gujarat She has been pursuing her acting career in Mumbai for six years. She is a BCA graduate and also has a Certification in CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate).

Maira says that her childhood was like any other person’s childhood who is born in a middle-class family. She was very close to her father who treated her like a princess. She shares that from childhood while watching Bollywood movies, she would think of doing the same in her life.

Maira says that she ran away from her home to Mumbai, knowing nothing about the city. She had no contacts or a plan to follow. She never took any professional training in the field and had no money to go for acting classes. With the help of some friends, she got leads to auditions and casting calls. She says that her struggling days were very tough. She has even shared a 2 BHK flat with eleven people living in it. She appeared for around 4000 auditions and finally got her first chance to appear in an advertisement with Sunsilk.

After around one and a half years, she got her first Telugu film, Kaadhali. However, the film didn’t do well. Maira had hoped to get more work after this project. But no substantial progress came her way. Maira was a bit disappointed by this and decided to leave everything to destiny. She feels that one should just put in their efforts and leave the rest to the universe. Maira says that in her starting days, she used to get very anxious and skeptical about her work, but now has evolved as a more stable person.

Talking about her accomplishments, Maira says that winning the award for Best Debutant for her Gujarati film, Chasani, is one of them. She adds that evolving as a more centered and emotionally stable person with time is also a triumph for her. She has become humbler and more disciplined.

Maira thinks that regional cinema has great scope and is bringing out new concepts and stories. She also thinks that the advent of OTT platforms has resulted in some great content creation. She feels that movies or series are made on the demand of the people and on the basis of what they want to watch.

She considers her father as her role model. He always motivated her and used to say that hard work is the easiest thing one can do in life. She is also inspired by her brother who supports her whenever she is stuck in some situation. Priyanka Chopra also inspires her and her journey guides Maira in planning hers.

Maira feels that the Indian Education system has missed the mark in terms of evolution and being relevant in today’s time. She feels that many of us spend years and years learning something which we might not end up applying in life. She thinks that if given more freedom, she would have opted for acting classes to polish her own skills and not learn some random concepts of Mathematics. She also adds that we are not taught basic concepts like management of money in our schools which is the real need of the moment.

Maira advises young people who plan to come to Mumbai to do thorough research. She says that everything is available on the internet. They should search for a legitimate Casting Director and plan their endeavors accordingly. She also suggests they not spend too much on Portfolio Shoots and just click some good pictures from their phone itself.

If given a chance, Maira would like to go back in time and relive her time with her father. She would also love to bring him back.
