Mahindra Singh Rathore is the owner of hotels named "Spirit Residency" and "Kumbhal Castle". He says you have to maintain quality food and good customer service to thrive in the hotel business.

Born and brought up in Udaipur, Mahindra belongs to a Rajput family where he has two sisters, his father, and his mother. He is currently running two hotels: the Spirit Residency in the I.T. Park area of Udaipur and the Hotel Kumbhal Castle in the Kumbhalgarh Fort area. Earlier, he used to own a restaurant by the name of Ghoonghat’ in the Sukher area of Udaipur but had to shut it down when he was hit by a big economic crisis, putting him into evident losses.

Mahindra says you cannot work if you do not believe in yourself. You have to trust the process and keep going until you succeed. Coming from a family of five where only his father used to earn, it was difficult for him to have studied in a private school along with his sisters because his father could not have paid all of their expenses. He says his father used to work in the pesticide industry and used to pack pesticides for the company. He says it was like his father had to eat poison every day for his family to prosper.

Mahindra lost one of his sisters in the year 1991, when she was just 6; he says he feels sad every single time he thinks about her because he could not get to spend a lot of time with her. He says that, for him, three people are the reason he is where he is today. Shilpa, Ramlal Dangi, and Gautam helped him surpass everything in his life, and he thinks they have played a prominent role in his making.

If Mahindra could travel back in time, he would pursue organic farming and work for the betterment of products in the country. He says a job comes last for him, but due to the circumstances, when he was offered one, he could not refuse. He always envied people going to private schools and wanted his sisters to study in the best ones, so he started working right after his higher secondary.

Mahindra is euphoric to see where his sisters are today and thinks he made the right decision. He says struggle is a part of everyone’s life, and any man who wants to be successful has to go through a time period where they struggle.

Asked about his leisure time, he says he never had enough time in his life to spare for activities that interested him. He has always been devoted to his work, and because he had to take on the responsibilities of his sisters, he could never devote time to doing things he liked. But he would love to own land and start farming once he thinks he has done enough in life to sustain himself.
