Mahesh, Secretary of Bhilwara-based Sangeet Kala Kendra, has been instrumental in preserving and protecting the institute, which imparts cultural and traditional knowledge of Indian classical music and dance to budding talents and has also contributed to popularizing Mewari culture and traditions.

Mahesh Joshi is the secretary of the Sangeet Kala Kendra, an Indian classical music training and research centre based in Bhilwara, Rajasthan. It was established in 1954 with the objective of reviving, preserving, and developing Indian classical music, popularizing folk songs and dances, and encouraging young and budding talents to take up traditional Indian dance forms.

Mahesh joined the Sangeet Kala Kendra in Bhilwara in 2012 and has since continuously worked to restore, maintain, and improve Indian classical music and dance styles. He currently serves as the secretary of the organization. He is a Mewari and is pleased to introduce children and young people to Mewari folk songs and dancing styles.

The Sangeet Kala Kendra has recognized instructors from Jaipur and Delhi to instruct the aspiring artists. It is associated with the Rajasthan Sangeet Natak Academy. The centre is well known for teaching Kathak and has turned forth some incredibly gifted performers. Mahesh was a journalist and also had a local news channel in Bhilwara. He always had an inclination towards art, culture, and dance. This made him associate with the Sangeet Kala Kendra.

Mahesh is a commerce graduate who has a deep passion for the humanities. He has held a position as a journalist for his news program. He put in a lot of effort as a journalist to organize diverse dance, play, and music performances that promoted Mewar's traditional art and culture, including Senani and Meera's poems. He also had a local news channel in Bhilwara.

To safeguard the place and existence of Sangeet Kala Kendra, he and his colleagues fought a long court fight and ultimately succeeded in protecting the cultural heritage of the city. The centre was at risk of closing between 2010 and 2011, as some anti-social elements tried to seize control of it and exploit it for personal gain. Mahesh's fortitude and tenacity prevented the centre from being shut down. In order to bring justice to the centre, he went up to the High Court and won his battles. As a result, he began serving in that capacity in 2012 onward.

Speaking about his struggles, Mahesh says he doesn't think that he has done so much to make a difference. Every generation looks at their challenges and wants the next generation to appreciate their struggles without forgetting that the next generation will have their own challenges.

When asked whether he is a born leader, Mahesh says leadership skills can't be taught; they are learned through the experiences of life. He believes that everyone has the potential to become a leader if they are willing to learn from their mistakes and grow from their challenges.

Mahesh also emphasizes the importance of intelligence over education, as he believes that if a person has intelligence, then only he will be able to utilize the knowledge and skills he has acquired. Alone education or experience cannot guarantee success in leadership. Additionally, Mahesh believes that effective leaders are those who possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, as these qualities enable them to inspire and motivate others towards a common goal.

During the COVID pandemic, Mahesh says people got the opportunity to see their deeper selves and have a conversation with themselves. He found that this time allowed him to reflect on his life and gain a deeper understanding of himself. He says those who kept themselves busy with their respective activities and hobbies were happy and content.

In his free time, Mahesh likes to spend most of the time reading books in his library. He never feels bored, as he enjoys learning and reading about new fields.

Mahesh counsels parents to teach their children about their heritage, culture, customs, folk arts, and history. He thinks that by teaching the younger generations about their past, they will be able to make wiser choices in the future.
