In spite of living a life full of struggle, Mahesh is patiently working hard to become an actor and wants his theatre work to be appreciated by people.

Mahesh Kumar Joshi works in Natyansh as a theatre artist and has been doing theatre for four years now. He has done many stage plays as an actor, and does local dances too. He did his schooling from his village itself and for 11th & 12th, he went to Seria Village. Then he did his college from Salumber.

Mahesh says that in his childhood, there was a school play in his village in which there was a role of a pregnant lady which no one wanted to do so Mahesh took that role and played it well. He got inspired by that and decided to choose acting as his career. Owing to which he opted Arts as his subject in 11th grade and moving forward graduated in Arts and did masters in Hindi Literature.

Mahesh himself is his inspiration and a self-motivated person. When he gave the FVI exam for the first time and didn’t get selected then he decided to join theater and came to Udaipur. Here he searched for many theatre groups and after a long search, he found Natyansh Academy and finally, his journey started.

Talking about achievements, Mahesh says that there was a big play ‘Pagalkhana’ by Natyansh in which Mahesh stayed in its workshop for four months without expecting that he would ever get a role in that play. But he got one in the fourth lead and he was even made the Assistant Director of that play, which was a big achievement for him. Thereafter, he did not leave any single production of Natyansh, be it any street play or monologue or anything. He did every work he could do and learned a lot. Now he is trying to get admitted into NSD or any other drama school to move ahead in his career. Recently, he has also worked in a documentary movie which is an achievement for him.

Further, Mahesh says that initially his father didn’t want him to do theatre so Mahesh worked in local plays without informing his father and when his photo appeared in the newspaper, his father felt happy and supported him to proceed further in his career.

In terms of struggle, Mahesh says that he is still struggling in this field but for the sake of following his passion he is managing rehearsals with his job as his family doesn’t support him financially. Also, he doesn’t have any vehicle so wherever he has to go, he goes by walking.

Mahesh says that in a theatre, it takes around four months of efforts and hard work to prepare a single drama or a play and that too without earning any money. He says it is a matter of great sadness where an artist is working for society and literature and people don't recognise this art. He considers it an insult to an artist and his work.

Mahesh says that during Covid, everything was shut down and as their theater was also closed, all artists went to their homes with no jobs in hand. As they could not sit idle for so long they started to perform live on their instagram page initially and as their skits got appreciated by people, they started broadcasting short-stories with social message videos on their YouTube channel. It became so successful that now they have started its second season as well. Personally, he was struggling financially and passing his days in some or other way.

Mahesh suggests newcomers who want to come into this field to take proper training before entering because there is no financial security in this field and the success rate is very low. So you can’t come into this field with the letting go mindset, instead you must be passionate about acting. Your hard work and patience decides your success and there is no guarantee that you will become a celebrity one day.
