Mahendra, a successful entrepreneur and active member of the community, has held various leadership positions in society. Over time, he diversified his interests and established businesses in the chemical industry, wholesale tea distribution, and ceramic pipe manufacturing too.

Mahendra Kumar Taya is a pioneering entrepreneur based in Udaipur.

Mahendra is a promising businessman in Udaipur who started his journey at the early age of 16 with his father in their gold business. He was married at the young age of 21 during his college life, but post-marriage too, he continued his studies with a postgraduate degree.

Mahendra was consistently sharp in business, so he started an alum-producing chemical plant in 1970, which he ran up to 1980. Later, he started a wholesale business in tea distribution. In 1982, he started a plant producing ceramic pipes.

In 1984, Mahendra decided to close his chemical plant and continue with the ceramic pipe business. In 1996, he started a second similar plant for ceramic pipes in Gujarat. Later, due to the entry of PVC pipes, ceramic pipes lost relevance, and he closed the plant in 2016. In 2016, he built a hotel and also started a factory for GP Resin, which is still running to date.

Having a very active social profile Mahendra was President of the Udaipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 2013 to 2015. He was also President of the Stoneware Pipe and Ceramic Industry Association. He presided over the Rotary Club of Udaipur and has been the President of the Digambar Jain Samaj for the last eight years. He has also been the executive President of Meera Kala Mandir.

Sharing about his COVID-19 experience, Mahendra says that the pandemic affected his hotel and the resin business badly. The hotel and the resin plant were closed for several months. As the resin has a life of only 2 to 3 months, a large quantity of ready-stock resin was also damaged and wasted. He also shares how he cherishes the time spent with his wife during the period, as his daughters are in different cities. He made sure to help his wife in the kitchen as well.

Sharing a sad memory with a lump in his throat, Mahendra says that he went on a pilgrimage trip many years ago. At that time, his father suddenly expired. There was no use of cell phones, and he was unable to get home on time since he learned about the news three days later.

Mahendra believes that any business requires hard work and dedication. He has done all the work from builder to hotel, from the ceramic industry to resin, by being active on the field for 12–14 hours. The only thing to keep in mind is to keep plans ready and not be afraid of unwanted additions. Work done with full dedication is never lost. In his field as well, if anyone has a proper aim, one can achieve great heights.

Encouraging a healthy lifestyle, Mahendra says that every day he takes a 5 km walk and is always ready to try something new. He is an active participant in religious activities, but he still finds time for social gatherings in various clubs.

Advising budding entrepreneurs, Mahendra says that the resin industry and the hotel business have a good scope in the market and that you can work hard for them.

Being a travel enthusiast, Mahendra claims that he has been to almost all the major parts of the world till now. He is also very inclined towards spiritual activities and devotes time regularly to them.

When asked about education and experience, Mahendra says that both have a vital role in life. Over the years, experience immensely helped him to work efficiently over time in his career, and on the other hand, education was important to form the basics in life.

Sharing his thoughts on leadership, Mahendra says that leadership always comes with experience. To be a leader, one has to be a follower first. A leader often faces backlash for their decisions, but one is a wise leader if they consider the big picture and stand firm on their decisions.

If Mahendra had the option to go back in time, he would say that he was happy with the way everything turned out for him. He still believes in working with the same energy as his younger self.

Mahendra has always looked up to his father as a role model. His father always inspired him to work hard.
