Madhulita has been practicing Odissi dance for the past 20 years, and aspires to take its tradition forward.

Madhulita Mahopatra is an Odissi dancer and choreographer who has gained gratefulness, humanity and humility from her dance journey.

Madhulita was born and brought up in Bhawanipatna in Odisha where she completed her schooling and graduation in B.Com. Thereafter, she moved to Bhubaneswar for her higher studies that is M.COM and then she joined ICWI (cost accountancy). She also completed her M.B.A. and started working at a small company where she met her husband. They got married and moved to Bengaluru because of her husband's profession.

Talking about her dance journey, she says she was passionate about dancing as a child. She started training for Sambalpuri folk dance when she was five under the aegis of her Guru Shri Bhim Sen Sahu. In her first year of graduation she finally got the chance to pursue her dream of taking classical training when an Odissi dance school opened in Bhawanipatna. She says she would mischievously bunk her college classes to take the dance classes as her parents told her to focus more on her studies. She took proper training in Odissi dance under her first Guru Shri Krishna Chandra Sahu. Her moving to bengaluru was a turning point in her dance journey where she got to spread the art form and learn new things. She says she started teaching dance to students in her Nrityantar dance academy which now has more than a thousands students and overseas students too.

Madhulita believes accomplishments can always be furthered, as being a classical dancer is a never ending learning process for her. She feels proud to be recognized by the government and other known organizations. Her academy also started an Odissi dance festival named “NAMAN”.

Madhulita feels extremely blessed to learn under the aegis of her Guru Aruna Mohanty and Guru Gangadhar Pradhan and Lord Jagannath, who would constantly guide her throughout her journey. She believes dancing for the past 20 years has helped her to grow as a beautiful person. She says she has learned from her mistakes and nothing could stop her to pursue her dancing career where she learned gratitude, humbleness, humanity and patience.

Madhulita requests all the youngsters to pursue classical dancing and music as learning a classical art makes one disciplined, patient and a better human being.

In her spare time, she enjoys painting, singing and traveling to heritage places. She says dance would always cheer her up when things are not going well. For Madhulita, dance is a continuous journey, and she will keep taking it forward.
