Her passion for dancing took Leni a long way in her professional journey by becoming a Therapeutic Dance Trainer and making a difference in the lives of people by her counseling sessions.

Dr. Leni Nagda is a Psychologist and a Counselor at Geetanjali Medical College, Udaipur. She is also a Guest Faculty at University College of Arts. Along with this, she is also a Choreographer and a Dance Therapist, who gives therapeutic dance sessions for relaxation.

Leni belongs to Udaipur. She did her schooling from Saint Teresa School. Then she did her BA and PG in Psychology from Arts College, MLSU. She also did a Diploma in Guidance and Counseling and B.Ed from Udaipur itself. Besides, she is a PhD holder in Psychology.

After her B.Ed, she worked as a Teacher at DPS, Witty International and St. Teresa School. But she was not satisfied with her job. So her husband pushed her to make a career in dance and named her dance academy as ‘Leni Bhatt Dance Academy.’ Moving in that direction, she combined dance with psychology and did a PhD in it. Gradually she also stepped into the counseling field, be it clinical or educational.

Recalling her childhood, Leni says she was fond of dancing since childhood but due to stage fright, she never performed in her school. But raising her spirits, she performed in the MLSU auditorium for the first time in her college and after that her dance journey never stopped. On receiving enough appreciation and encouragement, she opened her own dance academy under the name ‘Natraj Dance Academy.’

Talking about her role models, Leni says she considers her husband, her father, her brother and one of her teachers, Prof. Vijaya Laxmi Chouhan, as her role models for their constant support, guidance and positive approach.

Describing her struggles, Leni says that being a daughter-in-law, pursuing a career in dance, doing events and teaching dance to people all together has been challenging for her. She says that dance is considered a bad profession by society so convincing the family was very difficult for her.

Regarding her achievements, Leni says she is using dance as a therapy and people appreciate her work which is an achievement. Also, she is the first Therapeutic Dance Trainer in Rajasthan, which is a huge achievement for her. She also considers her psychology therapy sessions which help people heal mentally as her achievements.

In her spare time, she loves listening to songs and dancing. She is also fond of reading psychology books.

If anyone wants to make a career in dance, Leni advises them to never give up on your interest. She suggests you keep practicing it, no matter what your age is, how much time you get or whether you have financial backup or not. Start your career at a small scale by learning different dance forms, she advises.

To make a career as a psychologist, therapist or a counselor, it is necessary to complete your P.G., she suggests. Further, you can start your career by doing diploma and certification courses in your field of interest.
