Laveena Lakhari is a Fashion Designer and Senior Choreographer at SADA Dance Academy in Udaipur.
Laveena has been a dance enthusiast for 14 years. She has recently graduated and is a fashion designer as well. She has also been running an NGO where they teach the women in the nearby village and help them gain skills that would help them become financially independent.
Recalling her childhood, Laveena says that she spent her childhood in Banswara and Udaipur. Since she was a child, she has seen her family members struggle in order to improve their family’s financial conditions. Her sister was working as a teacher in a school, and her brother was engaged in labour work. Even when they shifted from Banswara to Udaipur, they did not have a single penny and built everything again after facing so many hardships. Nevertheless, they are currently living a stable life and are also in a position to help others through their NGO.
Laveena shares that when they shifted to Udaipur, her brother started doing dance, and she too was very passionate about dance. She remembers participating in several dance and garba competitions. She was simultaneously pursuing her studies and dance practice. After some time, she also started teaching dance. She has trained thousands of students, a few of whom have even participated in various reality shows. She has also choreographed more than fifty fashion shows and worked with several colleges, all at the age of twenty-two. She handles all her problems patiently.
Sharing her COVID experience, Laveena says that she lost her beloved father during this time, which was hard for her to deal with. However, she soon started an NGO, where she and her mother worked for the welfare of women and children. She even made a dance group, but it got disbanded after lockdown. She has learned a lot during this lockdown, and this has changed her life for the better. She believes that one must aspire to become a good person and have a hunger for learning new art within themselves.
Laveena believes herself to be a team worker instead of a leader, carrying the strong notion that whatever she has learned is through being a good team member and under the leadership of her brother.
When asked about her role models, Laveena says that she found inspiration at home; her idol and inspiration are her mother and brother; her brother, who has struggled throughout life from working as a mason to suffering from a back injury, However, he did not stop even after that and started dancing inspired by Hrithik Roshan. Her mother has also remained a strong pillar for her kids in every situation.
If given a chance to go back in time, Laveena would like to spend some more time with her father. Also, she feels that in the field of dance, many of her students, who were great dancers, could achieve much more but had left it midway. If she could have tried to inspire them, maybe the passion they carried would not have died so early.
In her spare time, Laveena enjoys gardening, sketching, and listening to music.
The only thing that keeps Laveena going is hard work and the will to do something new every day.
