We may be martyrs, but our mother India will be free.
We may be martyrs, but our mother India will be free.
Lalit Mohan Sharma is a retired assistant director from the education department and also a freedom fighter. He hails from Badi Sadri, a small town near Udaipur.
Recalling his days of participating in the freedom movement, Lalit says he went to Jaipur for his education, and at the young age of fifteen, he got inspired to take part in the freedom struggle. He came back to Udaipur and started participating in the activities of the Mewar Prajamandal under the guidance of Balwant Singh Mehta, the senior leader of the Congress party.
Lalit says that he was put in jail because of his participation in the freedom struggle. His father, who used to hold a high position, told him that if he apologized to the British government, he would be released. But inspired by his comrades and his senior leader, Manikyalal Verma, Lalit refused to apologize. This angered the British government, and at the same time, his father also refused to give him the money for his studies and living expenses. Lalit says that after this, he had to make and sell bags for a small hat shop to meet his expenses.
Lalit actively participated in the 1938 Prajamandal movement and the 1942 Quit India Movement. After the movement, under the pressure of his father, he did a diploma course in agriculture in Anand, Gujarat, and after getting married, he again returned to his village. After returning here, he worked in various jobs before joining the Vidya Bhavan institutions and worked there for about twenty years. After this, he joined the Department of Secondary Education and retired from there as Assistant Director. He says that he had actively participated in India's freedom movements, but after independence he was not interested in politics, so he did not join any party. But he actively worked for the upliftment of tribals and other underprivileged people in society.
Lalit advises the youth to move towards their goal with determination and not deviate from their path. Keep moving forward, learn from failure, and don't get discouraged; hard work will definitely take you to the point of success.
