Specially abled Lalit Kumar is an author, web developer, blogger and YouTuber who has written a book in Hindi called ‘Vitamin Zindagi’. He plans to release Maithili and Marathi versions of the book soon.
He founded the highly popular ‘Kavita Kosh’ in 2006, which has become the world's largest online library for Indian literature. It features poetic works in 50 Indian languages and is read by over ten lakh people every month.
Lalit also runs a publishing house that publishes books in Hindi. He has worked with the UN for five years when he enjoyed stability, good pay, pension benefits, and international exposure. However, he eventually felt stagnant and decided to pursue a different path.
Lalit pursued his formal education in Web and Software Development and also attained a Master Degree in Bioinformatics. He was awarded a Scottish government scholarship to pursue a master degree in Bioinformatics in Scotland. After completing his studies, he contributed to a major project for the European Union. Despite being offered a fully-funded PhD opportunity in Canada, he chose to prioritise his growing venture, Kavita Kosh, and declined the offer.
Since 2009, Lalit has dedicated himself to Kavita Kosh and serves as a social media consultant for the National Book Trust. Additionally, he is also the Chairman and Managing Trustee of two NGOs, one of which oversees Kavita Kosh and the other focuses on aiding the disabled. As a YouTuber with the channel 'Dashamlav,' he educates persons with disabilities about their rights and has over 1.5 lakh subscribers.
Talking about his achievements, Lalit proudly acknowledges receiving an award from the Government of India for serving as a role model to individuals with different abilities.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Lalit felt concerned about the unprecedented challenges and the suffering that it brought. However, he found ways to contribute positively. Through his organisation, he mobilised volunteers to aid migrant labourers who were returning home. Additionally, via his YouTube channel, he reached out to people with disabilities nationwide to provide essential support like rations to the people in need.
Though Lalit is mostly occupied with his work, in his spare time, he enjoys reading, travelling, and coding.
Lalit cherishes his life as it is and wouldn't alter his past even if he gets a chance. Yet, if he could use a time machine, he'd relive his school days from grades six to eight and when he did his masters studies in Edinburgh.
Lalit advises people not to let setbacks bring them down and to stay positive. He stresses the importance of seeking support for mental health challenges and encourages people to seek help for mental health issues from their friends. Further, he advises living a life dedicated to helping others, not just for yourself.
