Dr. Kunika Chechi is a Gynecologist and is practicing in Palwal, Haryana. She runs her clinic under the name ‘Vardan Nursing Home and IVF Center.’
Kunika was born in Haryana but brought up in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. She says that she comes from a community where girls are not allowed to get higher education. They get married as soon as they complete their schooling. She had never thought of becoming a doctor. But because she passed her 12th with good grades, her maternal uncle made arrangements to send her to the medical line.
Kunika shares that she had cleared her PMT on the very first attempt. During her training after MBBS, she got a seat in Gynecology. Eventually, she did her PG in Gynecology. Later, she worked as a lecturer for four years at Rohtak Medical College. Then she opened her own nursing home in a rented building and gradually expanded it.
Recalling her childhood, Kunika says that she had always been an obedient, homely, and submissive girl. She used to obey everyone and do all chores she was asked to. Seeing her sincerity and hard work, her family pushed her forward.
Describing her struggles, Kunika says that it was very challenging for her to take care of her household along with the responsibilities of a gynecologist. Another challenge that she faced was that the status of working at a medical college was wonderful and she enjoyed it. But everything went upside down when she started practicing, as people were skeptical about her expertise at the job.
When asked about her achievements, Kunika says her family’s trust in her to make her a doctor was her biggest achievement and that she could live up to their expectations was a big deal for her.
Between education and experience, Kunika says that education has the biggest hand in making your career and then experience helps you build and increase your confidence to take you further.
In her spare time, Kunika loves to sleep and relax. She is also fond of listening to Hindi poems and dancing.
Advising aspiring female doctors, Kunika tells them to choose the gynecology branch only if you have a good backup for yourself to take care of your family behind you.
To become a doctor, Kunika suggests that you should be devotional towards your profession. She suggests you should not enter into this field just for earning money because you have to work much more than what you earn and you cannot take this profession lightly at all. Furthermore, you always have to be updated about new protocols and diseases and accordingly, have to put in a lot of hard work.
