Kunal Hassanandani is a cinematographer and producer. He is the founder of 9 Wings Production, Mumbai.
Kunal lives in Mumbai with his family. After completing his graduation, he also studied at a film school for three months. He started working in this field at a very early age, and he is the only person in his family who chose the field of production.
Talking about his journey, Kunal says that initially he started working with Arjun Roy (DOP) and learned the intricacies of cinematography. He began his career with his first show, Permanent Roommates. Then he gradually developed as a cinematographer and learned other things too. Gradually, he started getting offers to shoot ‘sketches’ for "The Viral Fever," "The Screen Patti," and "Girliyapa." He shot more than 350 sketches, 10 web series, and 25 ads and then decided to open his own studio.
When asked about his mistakes, Kunal says that everyone makes mistakes, but learning from them is important, and he believes that the mistakes should not be repeated. He says he analyses his mistakes and tries to improve upon them.
Speaking about his role models, Kunal says that Anil Mehta is his role model in cinematography. In terms of his personal life, his role model is his father, who supported him at every step.
In his spare time, Kunal loves to swim, relax at home, and tries to focus on things like studio work, production, etc.
Kunal’s life mantra is "Learn from your mistakes,pick up good things,be a better person, and compete with yourself."
Advising aspirants to this field, Kunal says that cinematography is a creative field that also includes a lot of technicalities. In this field, one thing is related to another and also requires the use of common sense along with digital knowledge. He shares that there are five stages of cinematography that should be learned to master it. There are various schools and government courses at nominal prices from which a person can learn this art before entering this field, he says. Understand the whole process, and then decide whether you want to be a cinematographer, a director, or a production designer.
