Kunal Bansal is a video filmmaker who owns a production house that creates commercial videos, ads and short films for corporate houses and other SMSEs in India. He graduated from Marwah Studios, a film school, with a degree in cinema.
Kunal is from Adampur, a village in Haryana. Recalling his childhood days, Kunal says it was lovely to fight with his brother about silly issues like which songs should remain on an MP3 player. He treasures every second spent with his brother and friends.
When asked about his challenges in life, Kunal replies that he had no family support after the 12th grade when he wanted to pursue a career in films. It was difficult for him to persuade his parents that he should pursue an unconventional career path. However, according to him, nothing can stop someone who has a strong faith in his dreams from doing what they want.
According to Kunal, the best part of his line of work is getting to meet interesting people from different backgrounds who have all had difficult times, allowing him the chance to learn from their experiences. He has been to many different places thanks to his career, which also gives him the chance to travel frequently, and he enjoys it.
When asked whether education or experience matters more for a profession, Kunal responds that, while both are crucial, he believes that bringing your own identity to your work is what matters most. He believes that although education and experience are important, it is one's originality and particular approach to doing things that make you successful.
As his role model, Kunal considers Satyajit Ray, legendary filmmaker and an Oscar winner. His filmmaking approach, as well as the reflection of himself in his films, greatly motivates him.
“Don't let Perfect be the enemy of good" is a saying that Kunal finds to be quite inspirational. He says while we strive for perfection, it is actually our enemy if it prevents us from finishing our task or achieving our goals.
Kunal says that even if he had a Time Machine to go back in time, he would not change anything since he believes that everything happens for a reason and that his mistakes have made him who he is today. He is happy with how his efforts helped him achieve his goals.
Kunal advises anyone who aspires to a career in films to fight for their goals and not allow people to undermine their confidence. He thinks that in order to succeed in the field, one must be willing to step outside one's comfort zone, learn something new every day, and give their best.
