A former Ranji Trophy cricketer, Kuldeep now looks after the administration of a dental college and hospital. A big cricket enthusiast, he served in the cricket selection committee of Rajasthan after retirement from the game, and has acted as a referee for nearly 50 BCCI matches.

As General Manager of Darshan Dental College and Hospital in Udaipur, Kuldeep Mathur looks after all the administrative work there. He is also a big cricket enthusiast.

Born and raised in Udaipur, Kuldeep did his schooling from Bhupal Nobles School. Thereafter he graduated from MB College, Udaipur.

Kuldeep says he comes from a family of educators where his father was Principal of B N College. There was a tradition of playing cricket in his family. His father had set a global record by writing 12 books about cricket while serving as the Secretary of the Rajasthan Cricket Association.

Kuldeep, naturally, developed an interest in cricket due to his father's influence, and by the age of fourteen, he was participating in the Under-19 Rajasthan squad. He later played for the Udaipur University team before being selected for the Rajasthan Ranji Trophy squad where he was never dropped for 15 continuous years.

He also found a place in the Central Zone squad, which consists of players from Rajasthan, MP, UP, Vidharbha and the Railways. He proudly remembers the day when, as opener of the Central Zone team, he faced the first ball bowled by Imran Khan on Indian soil. He retired from First Class Cricket in 1985 but continued to serve on both the Rajasthan senior and junior selection committees. As a referee, he has officiated in around 50 BCCI matches.

Kuldeep shares that he received his first job offer from Hindustan Zinc as a sports officer while he was playing in the Ranji Trophy where he also looked after administrative tasks, gaining good experience.

Regarding struggles, Kuldeep acknowledges that they are a part of life. He was however fortunate to have had consistent success in cricket from his school days. He remembers that it was a major deal when he entered the Ranji Trophy team at the age of 17 years.  However, the fact that he was unable to realise his dream of being a member of the Indian cricket team despite being selected in the probables was a major disappointment.

He points out that Rajasthan does not lack good cricket talent, but the players lack the mental toughness and drive necessary to become national level players, as they do not get adequate support and a good playing environment from the association.

According to Kuldeep, a player requires ten to fifteen years to grow to a national level. For this reason, starting at age eight, we must inspire and prepare the children for sports. He says it's critical that we adopt a new way of thinking and select the best coaches.

Remembering his mistakes, Kuldeep states that in 1976–1977, Ashok Mankad advised him to join the Mafatlal Cricket Club in Mumbai but he could not do so due to family pressures. He believes that had he taken that chance he would have been at the height of his cricket career.

He enjoys spending time with his family and friends when he has free time. He also enjoys going to parties and listening to music as well. He fondly says the most memorable moments of his life were the three hours when he saw Lata Mangeshkar perform live at the Albert Hall.

Kuldeep exhorts everyone to abide by government regulations in order to prevent the spread of COVID.

Advising the young generation, Kuldeep says work ethics, honesty, time management and discipline are the most critical life skills to succeed in life.
