Kritin Gupta is a Civil Engineer and a budding entrepreneur in the Infra-Construction business.
Kritin was born and raised in Udaipur. He completed his education at four renowned schools, and then pursued a degree in Civil Engineering from Sheffield University in the UK.
Talking about his childhood, Kritin says he considers himself privileged enough to have gained substantial exposure from prominent schools and colleges. He had a bright and amazing childhood. Currently, he is primarily in the infra-construction business, like roads, dams, water pipelines, street lighting work, etc.
When asked about his struggles, Kritin says that everyone has their own set of challenges to face. After graduating from college, Kritin established his own company and took an assignment with a leading construction company in India. He was taking care of their water development business in Southeast Asia, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. He says that timezone management was the biggest challenge he faced during those times. He had very long working days as he had to work according to multiple time zones and maintain a balance between them. Other than this, he had some usual challenges, like getting the right kind of people to work with and managing the monetary cycles and cash flows in the business.
Talking about the COVID-19 period, Kritin shares that right before the lockdown, he shifted back to India and was about to start his new business here. His birthday falls on March 22nd, when they were going to inaugurate his new office, and that was the same day when the entire nation went into lockdown. Those times made him question his decisions, wondering if it was right to start his own company and pay salaries to people without a single rupee of revenue. But since the lockdown has lifted, the company is back on track and progressing, and he feels confident that he has taken the right decisions.
Advising budding youngsters, Kritin says that an engineer must always have the zeal to build something from nothing. An engineer must have good maths skills and be passionate about what they do. As far as entrepreneurship is concerned, you must have the ability to take risks, work hard, and even be willing to invest good money to fulfil your ambitions.
Kritin considers Dhirubhai Ambani his role model. He admires how Dhirubhai left his job abroad and started afresh in India, which led to one of the best examples of team building and the best human and country development of all time. Kritin learned from him that anybody with perseverance, hard work, and the ability to strive for their goals can achieve what they want.
In his free time, Kritin likes to play squash and read, and he loves to travel a lot. He enjoys meeting new people and trying out new cuisines.
When asked about the regrets that he has, Kritin says that he doesn’t wish to change anything from his past life and just accepts everything the way it has been.
Giving his thoughts on leadership, Kritin says he thinks that leaders are neither born nor made. They are just accepted by the people who follow them. Kritin believes in integrating people and in the growth of his employees so that they can grow simultaneously.
Kritin shares his favourite quote by Rockefeller: "Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the sake of the great". He adds that we have to get out of our comfort zone and strive hard to achieve the unaccomplished.
