A passionate nature lover, Krati was raised in a natural environment that fostered in her a deep emotional connection with her land. Motivated by her longing to cultivate her own food and raise awareness about the environment, she ventured into the field of agriculture.

Krati Singhvi is the co-founder of Urban Farms, Udaipur and has been in this field for the last four and a half years.

Krati belongs to Jaipur but now lives in Udaipur. She earned her Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communication from Jaipur. Krati then pursued an MPhil at the University of Oslo, Norway.

Krati's upbringing was immersed in the abundance of nature and lush greenery. After spending some time in Norway, Krati and her husband decided to move back to India. At that time, Krati was into content writing and social media marketing, but her love for her land brought her to the field of agriculture. She continued to utilize her content and marketing skills to inform people of the natural resources we are blessed with.

Talking about her journey in farming, Krati shares that her farming ideas were backed by three years of research, which involved growing different fruits and vegetables. She started with 1800 plants and trees, which have now grown to over ten thousand in number. Krati managed to grow strawberries in Udaipur despite the high temperature, which was an achievement for her. Converting a barren land to a land now known for its agriculture and daily production, Krati is also supporting nature through initiatives like water harvesting. Her children have also inculcated the habit of playing in nature rather than being glued to their gadgets. Krati feels that spending more time in nature also makes you disease-resistant.

Krati also conducts ‘Open Farm Day" every month, where people can join to learn more about the environment and farming practices. She also lets people pick strawberries themselves on a selected day for them to relish. Krati also celebrates ‘Farm to Table Day," in which food is cooked and served to people fresh out of the farm. Krati sells her produce online, which can be bought by anyone who wishes to experience fresh farm veggies and fruits.

Discussing her challenges, Krati shares that even after building a pond, they had to face water issues during the summer. So she started focusing on vegetables that could be grown with less water. Over seven thousand of her strawberry trees got burned because of excessive heat and a rise in temperature. There was also a time when her vegetation got spoiled due to excessive rainfall. Despite obstacles that came her way, Krati never compromised with her values or her profession.

Sharing her pandemic experience, Krati says that they had started a farmers market in Udaipur in 2020, which had to be discontinued due to COVID.

When asked about her role models, Krati says she draws inspiration from her paternal grandmother and maternal grandfather, who went through several ups and downs in life but continued to live their lives with full zeal, courage, and happiness.

Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Krati says that both have equal importance and offer learning outcomes.

If Krati could travel back in time through a time machine, she would go back to the time when nature was at its best in terms of water, clean air, and soil.

Krati advises everyone to just work hard and not chase money, as it will automatically follow.

Krati advises aspiring farming enthusiasts to stay committed and be patient. "Growing your own food brings unparalleled joy," affirms Krati, emphasizing on the profound satisfaction it offers.
