A talented Kathak dancer, Koushik has been practicing the art for many years. He has been successful in competitions and is very excited to continue his journey in this field.

Koushik Dutta is a Kathak dancer.

Hailing from Guwahati, Assam, Koushik has been learning Kathak for almost 13 years under the guidance of his gurus, Aligunjan Kalita Mudiar and Chandrani Ojha. He has also completed his master’s in zoology and is currently pursuing an MA in Kathak at a university in Khairagarh.

Recalling his childhood, Koushik says he started dancing at the age of three. He used to dance during the Bihu festival. Seeing his interest in dance, his parents got him admitted to the Sadhna Kathak Kendra, Nalbari, to learn classical dance.

Speaking about his journey, Koushik says he developed an interest in classical dance and completed ‘Visharad’. Later, he did ‘Nipun’ at the Sadhna Kathak Kendra in Guwahati. Currently, he is working as a faculty member at the same institute.

Koushik says his family has always supported him, and his friends also motivated him to pursue a career in Kathak.

Sharing his accomplishments, Koushik says he joined Kathak, and within a year he got a scholarship from CCRT, which was an achievement. During his education at the university in Guwahati, he participated in the Inter-College Youth Festival and won a gold medal in 2016 and a silver medal in 2017. He also became a grade "B" Kathak dancer at Doordarshan. He was also selected among the top 15 Kathak dancers nationally and got an opportunity to perform on the 26th of January in Delhi. He also participated in various festivals, such as Navodit by EZCC. He was also awarded as the Future Face at IIDF, Guwahati.

When asked about his mistakes, Koushik says he thinks of himself as a shy person. He was not confident enough to talk, which he considered a mistake because he believes that if he had been confident at that time, maybe he would have been in a better position.

Talking about his role models, Koushik says his parents are his role models because he learned to face challenges from them. He also considers his gurus, Aligunjan Kalita Mudiar and Chandrani Ojha, his role models, as they taught him dance along with life lessons.

To relieve stress, Koushik prefers to dance, listen to music, and draw, as it helps him attain mental peace.

Koushik’s life mantra is "hard work and dedication."
