Kiran Soni is a Yoga Therapist and Dietician She is the owner of Yog Kiran Studio, and also a Yoga Faculty at Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
Kiran offers yoga sessions at her center, Yog Kiran, and has been doing so for the past seven years. Initially, she started with a center for kids, The Kids Yoga, and worked with kids for three years before starting to work with adults.
Kiran was born and brought up in Udaipur. She was a science student from her schooling days and did her B.Sc. in Biology from Meera Girls College. She got married at a young age and, after having kids, felt like doing something for her health. Even though she had knowledge about yoga for the past fifteen years, she decided to pursue it formally in 2018, and took admission to a Yoga Kendra and MLSU to pursue an M.Sc. in Yoga. Kiran says that it was the beginning of a new life for her.
Kiran says that she topped in all four semesters and received a gold medal in 2012 from MLSU. She cleared the UGC NET in her first attempt. Meanwhile, she also completed a diploma in Nutrition and Health Education from Vardhman Open University in 2007. Along with teaching yoga, she also started giving diet plans to her clients and started solving lifestyle disorders like PCOD, hypotension, hypertension, etc. through her holistic methods.
Talking about her childhood, Kiran says that it was spent in the old city of Udaipur. She was raised in a joint family of twenty-five people, which helped her remain stress-free. She feels that today, one of the main reasons for stress is the increase in nuclear households, in which misunderstandings fail to be resolved and eventually affect the children.
Speaking about her role models, Kiran says that her father is her first role model, as he always asked her to do something in life and try to be self-sufficient. It was because of his motivation that she started her journey in yoga. Next, Kiran says that her husband, Ravi Soni, always supported her and always asked her to pursue her passion in yoga. She also adds that her mother and mother-in-law also played an important role, as she feels that supporting women is a different kind of support in life. She also expresses her gratitude to her entire family, as Kiran feels that it is the support of a family that can help a woman grow in life.
Talking about her struggles, Kiran says that while taking admission to MLSU, she was not sure whether she would be able to manage her studies and family together. She would go to college and then come back, study, and then do her household chores. She says that she could not give time to her kids' education as well. The other struggle was the preparation for the UGC NET, but her mother-in-law and sister-in-law supported her throughout her journey, which made it easier for her to clear the examination in her first attempt. After that, she did a Ph.D. as well, and then also took a course to qualify as a Consultant Yoga Therapist from the YCB (Yoga Certification Board), Government of India.
Kiran says that the coordinator of her college, Dependra Singh Chauhan, proved to be a support system as he introduced her to the chanting of ‘Om’ and the importance of the Gayatri Mantra.
Advising the youth, Kiran says that yoga is not only about having flexibility, but also about holistic wellness and inner peace.
