Kiran Goswami is a nurse working at the GBH American Hospital, Udaipur. Kiran completed her nursing degree from the Gayatri Institute of Nursing. She likes her profession very much and takes great pride in it.
Kiran was born and brought up in Udaipur. Her father gave her many important lessons in life and was a key figure in her life. She was always monitored and supported by her father. Whenever she faced a problem, her father would always be the first to provide her with whatever help she required. Being a conservative and protective parent, her dad didn't want her to pursue nursing. However, he supported her in following her dreams.
Kiran was at the forefront of the COVID-19 workforce, and she practically risked her life to save patients in an emergency during the pandemic. Despite the repeated requests from her family to leave the job for a while, she did not listen to them, as she believed that if she backed out of this challenge, then she would have failed her profession as a nurse. She had to take care of a number of emergency patients during this time. She was also in charge of labour in the gynaecology department, meaning she had the responsibility of ensuring safe deliveries for pregnant women.
One such case she recalls that happened and came as a huge challenge was when a pregnant lady was recorded as COVID-19 positive. She handled the situation skillfully and made sure that there was a safe delivery of the child, and the condition of the mother was also taken care of. These constant challenges help her derive pleasure from her work.
During her free time, Kiran enjoys evening walks on Sundays. The most inspirational figure in her life is her father, followed by Dr. Shilpa Goyal, who is her professional mentor. She helped her learn the occupation and handle patients with patience and care.
Kiran states that nature and habits change from patient to patient. Some are rude, and others don't take their treatment or recovery period seriously. As a nurse, she believes it is their duty to take care of their patients, irrespective of the negative comments they may receive from the patient’s family or the patients themselves. Every day is a new challenge, according to her.
