Beating all his hardships and learning from his mistakes, Khushveer today is running a hotel based in Udaipur city and has been striving to carve a niche for himself as a hotelier.

Khushveer Singh Deora is a co-founder and director of JanDec Hotels Pvt. Ltd., Udaipur. His first venture under the group is Hotel Janak Vilas in Udaipur itself.

Khushveer hails from Sirohi. He has done a BA, MA, and B.Ed.

Khushveer shares that after his MA, he started his first business in the finance and property field. Later, in 2019, when his younger brother proposed a plan to him to venture into the hospitality industry with a hotel of their own, he accepted the proposal and delved into it. Along with his brother, he started JanDec Hotels Pvt. Ltd in Udaipur.

Talking about his childhood, Khushveer says that he grew up in a joint family. His family used to live on a farm. He didn’t have any parental business. However, his father always wanted both his sons to do well and he also provided them with a good education.

Khushveer says that since he always wanted to do something in the restaurant and hotel line hence he chose to set up his own hotel group.

Khushveer shares that after completing his masters he started preparing for RAS examinations and went to Jaipur. Later, he also did a B.Ed.from Kanore in Udaipur, when he was told about the vacancies in government teaching jobs. But he had no luck at getting a government job and hence he decided to do something of his own. He started a financing company that would lend money to people and ran it for thirteen years along with a property business in between. In 2019, he started his own hotel along with his brother.

Talking about his challenges, Khushveer says that he was doing well for himself with his finance and property business. But due to a downfall in the property market in 2013 and because of the effects of Demonetization in 2016, he had to face challenges in running his business. He also had to face some challenges to comply with government norms. That’s when he realized that the property business is not sustainable and he would have to do something else. Later, when he took to the hospitality industry, he had to face challenges with regard to constructing and renovating his hotel.

Talking about COVID, Khushveer says that the pandemic was quite a challenging time for him. He faced a major slump in his hotel business owing to the pandemic. He even thought of quitting the hospitality sector as he had to pump in a lot of money from his side to keep his hotel business afloat. However, he didn’t give up and started again when things started to normalize. In hindsight, he thinks that it was the right decision not to discontinue his hotel business.

Talking about his mistakes, Khushveer says that everyone commits mistakes but learning from your mistakes is the key. He says that once he lent a huge sum of money to someone and he had to struggle to recover the same. But committing the mistake taught him whom to trust and whom not to, he says.

Talking about his inspirations, Khushveer says that you can take your inspiration from anyone and anywhere, be it your surroundings or the books that you love. For him, his father is his inspiration and role model. Besides, PM Narendra Modi is also an inspiration to him.

If he could go back in time via a Time Machine, Khushveer would want to go back to the time when he was in college and like to relive it.

In his spare time, Khushveer likes to read articles and watch videos on YouTube on Politics and History. Besides, he also likes to listen to music.

Khushveer’s advice to people is to do whatever they do passionately and never feel low in life when things don’t work out according to them as everything happens for a reason.
