Kelvin Prince is a poet and a rapper at Blow Ethnic, one of the renowned bands in Udaipur.
When asked about his journey in this industry, Kelvin says that initially, he didn't have much knowledge about music production. Later, he started doing audio recording, mixing, mastering, and directing videography. He exclaims that learning in this field is a long process.
Talking about his childhood, Kelvin recalls a moment from 2nd grade when it was the first time he heard an English song. It was a rap song from Linkin Park. Kelvin exclaims that rapping is his passion and has been ever since he can remember.
Sharing his struggles, Kelvin mentions that initially he wasn't aware of the possible problems he could have faced in this field. Financial problems also came along the way. Writer’s block is a common issue, and many negative voices will try to pull you down. But one must always trust the process and never give up.
Discussing COVID-19, Kelvin says that his first month was very unproductive. But thanks to the lockdown, he found his artistic side again during this period. He redesigned his music studio with self-made wall paintings.
Giving advice to budding rappers, Kelvin mentions that you should just think like you were born today and try to learn everything that your industry is teaching you. Save the useful information and ignore the rest. Further, Kelvin stresses how one must always be ready for surprises in this industry. The music field has a lot of internal politics. His advice is to keep faith in oneself despite all challenges.
In his free time, Kelvin enjoys cooking and painting. He also enjoys sleeping when he has the time.
Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Kelvin believes that in this industry, we need 40% education and 60% experience. Ultimately, he states that we should try to give our best in both arenas to excel in the future.
Kelvin mentions that, lyrically, his role model is Eminem, and personality-wise, he is inspired by Tyga.
If Kelvin could go back in time, he would want to go back to the 8th grade, when he discovered his passion and meaning in life.
On a concluding note, Kelvin says that everything might look like a joke at a young age, but one must learn to take things seriously.
