Practice makes a man perfect!
Kaushik is a public prosecutor and government advocate at the District and Sessions Court, Dungarpur. Kaushik has been entrusted to look after the matters pertaining to the SC-ST Act, NDPS Act and Electricity Act by the government of Rajasthan.
Kaushik got inspiration from his father to become a lawyer. His father was also a lawyer. Kaushik worked with Human Rights Law Network and Livelihood Bureau to help the underprivileged and labour class people.
Kaushik says that he did not have to face many problems as a lawyer as his father always got his back. Initially, he was a bit hesitant to practise standalone and always relied on his father. But when he took the responsibility of a public prosecutor he had to work for the state government and it was challenging for him.
During Covid, Kaushik followed the Covid protocol and regularly appeared at the District and Sessions Court to lobby for the state government.
Talking about his childhood, Kaushik says that he spent his childhood in Dungarpur. He was raised in natural surroundings. There were ponds and rivers in his town. He would go to bathe at the local water bodies. He would climb mango trees and pick mangoes. He shares an anecdote. On one occasion, he was caught for barging into a field and eating chickpeas growing there. Later he realised that he had barged into his own field.
Kaushik says that in the profession of advocacy, experience matters more than education. He shares that law is a vast field and only practice can make you perfect in this field.
Kaushik considers his father as his role model. He says that his father always helped poor people and never really cared for money.
If Kaushik could go back in time, he would want to relive his childhood and enjoy life with his friends. He would also want to bring time to a standstill at the time when he was a kid.
Besides his profession, Kaushik likes to do gardening and read books. He also likes to sing songs.
To the new entrants to the field of advocacy, Kaushik advises that you should come into this profession with an aim to serve society. You should accept your mistakes and learn from them. Besides, you should also keep yourself abreast with the latest updates with regard to high court rulings and law.
Kaushik concludes with a quote, “Where there is a will there’s a way!” He says that without determination and strong will, we can’t achieve anything in life.
