Kartik Khandelwal is a Mountaineer and a Certified Rock Climber. He runs a trekking community in the name of ‘Ek Jagah’, which caters to the people visiting Udaipur by taking them on trekking trips to the hills and mountains.
Kartik has been residing in Udaipur since a long time having his original roots from Sirohi, Rajasthan. He has been a very adventurous and sporty kid since childhood. He says that he has been climbing since his fourth grade. He did his schooling from St. Paul’s Sr. Sec. School, Sirohi till seventh grade and did rest of his schooling from Udaipur. He started his cycling and mountaineering journey in 2018 after getting inspired from his maternal uncle, who is a Rock Climbing Instructor. Due to this, he did a few certification courses in it. He did two-three big climbing expeditions too. About his studies, he joined Engineering for a year and left it for not having interest in it. Then he joined BN University and also became a member of its NCC Unit.
Kartik says that because of the Covid pandemic, his expedition to Mt. Everest got canceled. But soon he got a chance to scale the 17,000 ft Friendship Peak in Manali after the easing of Covid-19 restrictions. He feels Covid was good for him to do something towards following his passion and he started ‘Ek Jagah.’
When asked about the challenges he has faced, Kartik says that he has faced a lot of obstacles to move ahead in this field. When he started doing high summits, he faced several obstacles like keeping the team members fit, taking care of their deteriorating health, rescuing them and even calling off a climb in case of any emergency because of which his target also remained incomplete. But everything done in good spirit has helped him achieve a lot at this young age.
Talking about his achievements, Kartik says that his unforgettable summit to Mt. Yunam in Himachal Pradesh, which was sponsored by the Udaipur Cycling Club, is his biggest achievement.
Kartik opines about Leadership that a leader can’t always just lead, he must become a follower when he lacks something in him and learn it. Plus, a good leader must work along with the team and take them along in every decision that matters. Also, sometimes a good leader has to compromise the targets for the group as a whole above his individual growth and progress.
If Kartik gets a chance to go to the past, he would go back to his school life and increase the periods of games and sports.
