Karan Kapoor is the Principal Consultant at MasterMined Consulting.
Karan was born in Bangalore and did his initial schooling there itself. He used to move around a lot as his father was in the Indian Navy. After completing his eighth standard, he finally settled in Delhi with his family and completed his schooling from there itself. Then he pursued his B.Com at DU.
Recalling his childhood, Karan says that he misses his school time the most, and most of his friends being from the defence background, he never really faced any issue with settling in at new places. He also recalls his college time when he was in the college band and used to travel around with his music group for performances.
Talking about his work, Karan says that he started his own business straight after completing his graduation instead of going for a job. He initially tried his luck in the export business but it didn’t work out, so he switched to the shipbuilding industry in Surat. He eventually moved to recruitment. He says he has been in the recruitment business for the past 12 years, having started in 2009. He has done recruiting for several companies associated with various industries for all kinds of roles. He says that since 2020, they have been recruiting for only technical roles such as AI, Data Science, Machine Learning, etc. He is also learning stocks trading due to his knack for numbers and to have multiple sources of income.
About the struggles he faced in his journey, Karan says that initially it was not that big of a challenge, but after COVID the trends of the industry changed and he had to adapt accordingly.
Karan likes mountaineering and trekking. He says that from 2012 to 2019 he used to go to the Himalayas every few months to do mountaineering. He shares that he gravitated towards these adventure sports as most of his friends from his music group had started families and couldn’t practise together much. He took a long break from mountaineering after COVID which still continues.
Speaking about his regrets in life, Karan says that he wishes that he should have continued his music despite having his friends discontinue it, as he was free back then. He also regrets not pursuing masters after completing his graduation.
Talking about his accomplishments in life, Karan says that he doesn't think he has achieved much in life. He says that he believes more in learning than making accomplishments.
Sharing his insights about the impact of COVID, Karan says that it caused a financial crisis due to which recruitment almost froze for around nine months. He says that this was a huge downside of the pandemic which affected him as well.
Karan considers his friends and family his biggest supporters in life. He says that while his parents have always been supportive of his decisions and choices, his friends have helped him overcome his stage fear by introducing him to music.
Karan has many hobbies and interests as his parents have always motivated him to develop them along with his studies. He says that he regularly keeps developing new hobbies and skills some of which are travel blogging, sketching, and photography. He also volunteers for animal welfare organisations. He further adds that volunteering for animals and travelling gives him mental peace.
On a final note, Karan advises everyone not to take life too seriously and do what makes them happy.
