Kanta Katta is a dedicated teacher at Alok Senior Secondary School in Udaipur, where she teaches primary classes.
She began her career by teaching pre-primary students, drawn to their innocence and the joy of teaching them. Later, she started teaching primary school students. Kanta deeply values her profession, embraces the mother-teacher concept, and cherishes spending time with her students, imparting knowledge, and engaging with them.
Sharing her journey, Kanta shares that she was motivated to pursue teaching during a period of financial hardship. She expresses profound gratitude to a supportive friend whose encouragement empowered her to embark on this independent path. Starting her career at a pre-primary school near her home, she spent four fulfilling years there before joining Alok School.
According to Kanta, entering the education field requires a genuine fondness for children, adequate education, and the necessary knowledge. Education, she believes, knows no bounds; the more you learn, the more you grow. Kanta emphasises the importance of a B.Ed degree for teaching in any school, while a STC or NTT course degree is necessary for teaching in pre-primary schools. She stresses the need for the right attitude towards students, interactive teaching methods, and the creation of a family-like environment, especially in pre-primary departments. Self-confidence, she adds, is paramount in this field.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, Kanta observes significant changes and challenges within the educational landscape due to the pandemic. Adapting to online teaching presented hurdles, yet teachers dedicated themselves to delivering quality content. Despite initial unfamiliarity with technology, many educators swiftly adapted for the sake of their students.
When discussing her role models, Kanta says she cites as her role models the chairman of the Alok Institute, Acharya Shyam Lal Kumawat, who treated his staff like family, and the institute's director, Mr. Pradeep Kumawat, whom she admires for his expansive knowledge and inspiring demeanour.
Kanta believes that for teaching pre-primary classes, experience outweighs formal education, as dealing with young children requires a unique skill set. However, for higher classes, both education and experience are equally vital. Known for her punctuality, Kanta makes it a point to arrive five minutes early, maintaining a perfect record of never being late to school in her 20-year career.
The song "Ajeeb dastan hai yeh" resonates deeply with Kanta, reflecting her life's journey.
