Kanchan Paneri is the HOD and Lecturer in the Sociology Department at Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute. She is also an author and has got two books published. She has a particular interest in studies about women and has also published several research papers on the social condition of women.
Kanchan was born and brought up in a village in the Udaipur district of Rajasthan. She says that she enjoyed an active and fulfilling childhood in the ambience of nature.
Kanchan did her schooling from Udaipur. Then she pursued her graduation and followed it up by doing MA, M.Phil, and a Postdoctoral degree. After getting married and having a child, Kanchan started job hunting and got a job at the MLSU as a guest faculty. Eventually, she got selected for the post of Lecturer at the Vidya Bhawan Rural Institute.
Talking about her role models, Kanchan says that her parents are her role models, who have always supported her and raised her to be of a strong character. She goes on to say that she attributes all her success to her parents as they supported her studies despite having to face societal pressure against her higher education.
Sharing her experience of the COVID period, Kanchan says that on a positive note, it gave everyone an opportunity to spend time with their family and also made everyone realise human values. She also encouraged her kids to take more interest in nature by engaging them in planting and taking care of plants. She rediscovered her old hobbies as well. Speaking of the negative aspects of the pandemic, she says that it was a horrible experience for her whole family as everyone got COVID positive and had to struggle for even basic amenities like food and medication.
Kanchan’s journey to becoming a renowned educationist was not easy. She shares that she did face numerous hurdles and restrictions being a working mother. However, she says, the strength and values that her parents had instilled in her kept her going.
Given a chance to revisit her past with a Time Machine, Kanchan would like to return to her childhood and relive it. On being asked what she would do differently, she says that she would prefer joining the medical field as a Doctor.
Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Kanchan says that while both are individually important, a perfect balance between them both is crucial in today's times.
Advising the upcoming generation, Kanchan says that you should make a solid goal for yourself without getting influenced by herd-mentality. And to the aspiring teachers, she advises that you must be thorough with your field of study and the latest developments in it. She advises the youth as a whole to also contribute towards the nation's growth.
On a final note, Kanchan says that according to her, self-confidence and respecting the value of time are the two qualities which are vital for success.
