Kamal, who started his career in the hospitality industry, slowly found his way into sales and marketing after identifying his interpersonal skills. He slowly climbed the ladder and found his true calling in coaching and mentoring people.

Kamal Raja Lingam P is a Senior Vice-President at a leading construction firm in Chennai. He is also a certified transformational coach, speaker, and author of a book called "Bring Out the Winner in You." Kamal coaches people in different facets of life and guides them in sales and marketing as well.

Recollecting his childhood memories, Kamal says that he was born in Kanpur and brought up in Chandigarh and Delhi. Kamal got an opportunity to explore different places owing to his father’s transferable job. He feels that his father has played a big role in shaping his personality.

Talking about his professional journey, Kamal says that he started his career in the hotel industry and worked in it for some time. He later realised that he loved interacting with people, which in turn landed him in sales and marketing. His position in the company required him to train other employees, which later sparked his interest in coaching and mentoring people.

Discussing his challenges, Kamal shares that there was a rough phase in his life wherein he ended up losing jobs and encountered personal issues with his family, which demotivated him. However, Kamal didn’t let his life experiences bog him down; he used them as an opportunity to coach other people and help them sail through difficult circumstances that life would put them in.

Sharing his COVID experience, Kamal says that the pandemic taught him to stay close and connected with his family. He goes on to share that he contracted the virus and was hospitalised for 26 days, during which his parents also got infected. Kamal adds that this was the time when he got ample time with his parents and their bond grew stronger.

When asked about his role models, Kamal shares that he draws inspiration from his father, who strived hard to change his situation by using education as a tool to grow in life. He is also thankful to his former boss, who showed him the path to excel in his career.

Speaking of his accomplishments, Kamal says that becoming a Senior Vice-President and an author has been an achievement for him. Transforming people’s lives is another thing that makes Kamal happy and satisfied.

Drawing a comparison between education and experience, Kamal says that while education sets the foundation, it is experience that gives you lessons in life.

His success mantra is to take action and achieve his goals step-by-step. Kamal continues to say that the basic mantra to becoming a successful coach is to ask powerful questions.

If given the opportunity to time travel and change something from his past, Kamal says that he would not like to change anything since he believes that his past has shaped his present.

Sharing his viewpoint on leadership, Kamal considers himself more of a winner than a born leader. However, at the same time, he feels that he gained certain leadership qualities through his life experiences.

Kamal advises the young not to refrain from taking action out of fear of failure. He urges people not to be in a negative mindset and to be open to facing any challenges head-on.

When free, Kamal likes to spend time with his family and capture beautiful moments. He also likes to watch movies.
