Kalyani is a yoga teacher who thinks yoga is not just a physical practice but it also has a spiritual and mental connection to the heart and soul.

Kalyani Thakkar is a yoga instructor who has been in this profession for the last 26 years. She comes from Gujarat and is currently settled in Mumbai.

Recalling her childhood, Kalyani shares that as a five-year-old, she was always interested in sports and achieved milestones in the game of volleyball. She has been cautious regarding her health and fitness since her early days. Kalyani further shares that she was born into a Brahman family and grew up in a spiritual environment.

When Kalyani got married and delivered a baby, she decided to pay more attention to her fitness. So, she joined a yoga class, and as her interest in the matter grew, she also took a certification course in the subject. After practising yoga for three years, Kalyani was advised by her yoga mentor to start teaching yoga. Kalyani was initially sceptical, but she gave it a shot and has been practising and teaching yoga since then. She feels happy to have received immense support from her family, who let her pursue her interests.

Talking about the importance of yoga in her life, Kalyani says that since she started this practise, she feels more organised and punctual. She wishes to spread the yoga wave in society and also conducts free yoga sessions in association with the BMC in Mumbai. Kalyani currently works as a yoga instructor at a renowned institute. She also has her own teachers training courses in yoga.

Sharing about her mistakes, Kalyani says that she could never plan properly, which she considers a mistake. However, with the help of yoga, she now makes an attempt to decide, make a plan, and then execute it timely.

When asked about her role models, Kalyani says she draws inspiration from her family members, especially her mother, who even at the age of 80 practises meditation on a daily basis. Kalyani says that she has learned the art of planning and punctuality from her family members. She also feels inspired by the ideologies of Sadhguru and B.K. Shivani.

Describing her achievements, Kalyani shares that she made a world record of doing 1008 surya namaskars, for which her name also got registered in the Limca Book of Records.

Kalyani wakes up early to practise meditation and has the rest of the day to herself. She practises pranayama before going to bed. For relaxation, Kalyani does gardening and reads some good books.

Her success mantra is to live every moment to its fullest and keep learning along the way.
