Since childhood, due to an environment of studies at home, Kalyani studied hard in her life and became a government teacher. Currently, she holds the post of District Education Officer, Head Office at Chittorgarh.

Kalyani Dixit is the District Education Officer in the Elementary Education Department in Chittorgarh. She supervises and monitors thirteen-hundred-eighty Government Schools and six-hundred-thirty Private Schools regarding their teaching, administration and teachers.

Kalyani was born in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She says that she did not face any problems in her early life because there was an educational atmosphere in her house as her father was a Professor and her grandfather was a Doctor. She says that due to her father’s transferable job, she studied till 9th class in the Government School of Rajgarh because at that time there were no private schools there.

Kalyani says her struggle started after she came in the 10th std because her father was then transferred to Chittorgarh and there was only one girls school at that time there, which also did not have History and Economics as subjects. Due to which her father got special permission from the Ajmer Board and enrolled her in a boys school. She passed her 10th and 11th from there with good marks, even though she was the only girl studying among fifteen hundred boys. She did her B.A. in English Literature and M.A. in History.

Kalyani says that during her M.A, she got married and because she was good at studies her husband sent her to Udaipur to pursue B.Ed. And soon she got the job of a Second Grade English Teacher. Her husband motivated her to proceed further in life and as soon as she completed her five years in the job, she appeared in the RPSC exam and cleared it in first attempt. She became Headmistress of a Secondary School in Gangrar in Chittorgarh district.

Yet again, as she shares, a phase of struggle came in Kalyani’s life because her husband was posted in Nimbahera, she was in Gangrar and both her children were small and their primary education was going on. But her husband and family fully supported her and cooperated very well in handling the situation.

In 2003, Kalyani’s husband was diagnosed with cancer, which he got treated and meanwhile she became Principal and was transferred to Chittorgarh. In 2009, her husband’s cancer recurred and he died in 2015 while battling the disease. Keeping her courage, she handled everything on her own and in 2018, she got promoted to District Education Officer, Head Office, Chittorgarh.

Kalyani considers her greatest achievement to be that she has never found herself in a problematic situation or to be unsuccessful in her life because her staff has always supported her in her professional career.

Kalyani shares that during the Covid pandemic, studies were set aside and their first duty was to convert schools into rehabilitation centres for those who were migrating at that time and to give shelter, food and basic needs to those migrants. But as per the instructions and with the cooperation of the administrative office, they were able to manage everything well. For students, they started a ‘Smile Program’ under which online classes were started and lectures were uploaded on the platform. But she laments that students of villages who lived in deprivation, faced problems getting education due to lack of mobile devices.

Kalyani’s father has been her role model since childhood because he never differentiated between son and daughter and always guided her to move forward in life. After marriage, her husband and brother-in-law became her role models, because they always supported her to study further and become something in life.

If Kalyani ever gets a chance to go back in life, she wants to go back to her school life because being engrossed in studies, she could not participate in sports. Apart from this, despite being interested in music, she could not learn music. So now if she gets a chance, she would like to go back and learn music.

She is fond of reading in her spare time. Also, she likes to watch comedy serials on TV.

Kalyani says that in today’s era, no matter how much modernity has come and how many electronic gadgets children become friendly with, they lack moral education, honesty, discipline and basic ethical behaviour towards everyone. And she feels that due to increasing competition, the young generation is losing patience and they want more success in less time which is next to impossible and they eventually get stressed. That’s why she advises everyone that you should not adopt shortcuts for your work, instead work hard and move forward with honesty, you will definitely get success. Also, if you are right in your field then you don’t need to be afraid of anyone.
