Kalyan, an activist, runs an NGO that works for the upliftment and betterment of women and children. Along with it, he is working with UNICEF to raise awareness about various issues in society. He has also had an accomplished journalism career.

Kalyan Singh Kothari is a social worker and activist at Lok Samvad Sansthan.

Currently residing in Jaipur, Kalyan was born and brought up in Jodhpur. He did all his education until his B.A. and LLB from Jodhpur itself. He grew up with his eight brothers and three sisters, all of whom are in versatile career fields. His elder brother was a renowned personality all over India and abroad, and he was decorated with Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri too. It was his inspiration that led Kalyan to take up an initiative in the direction of social work.

Kalyan took advice from his elder brother on how to go about this work. His brother advised him to first join an organization and learn while working there before starting his own NGO. Thus, Kalyan started by working in various media houses, during which he got the chance to interview several dignitaries and also cover the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war.

After working for 15-20 years in the field of journalism, Kalyan shifted his focus towards business, but that didn’t work out for him due to low funds. So, he joined journalism again. Slowly but surely, he earned a good name in the media industry through his knowledge and competency.

In 2000, Kalyan started an NGO named “Lok Samvad Sansthan'' with the aim of raising awareness about women's and children's rights. To promote the organization and spread the word about the issues, he used his experience in journalism and media advocacy. Through the effective use of media advocacy, he inspired many individuals in the direction of social work. In the meantime, he also joined UNICEF and has been a member of it for the past fifteen years. He actively contributed to UNICEF's goal of conserving culture and heritage.

Kalyan says that during the COVID situation, he worked with UNICEF and initiated a project through which they motivated the youth to help maintain the COVID protocol. Personally, he and his family followed the COVID protocol with discipline. This was the reason that, despite being over 80 years old, he is fit and healthy.

During his free time, Kalyan likes to chat with his friends and spend quality time with his family. He also likes to do gardening and help out the family with household chores.

Kalyan tells budding journalists that the world is rapidly changing and there are numerous opportunities out there for you. He advises that you will have to be more vigilant and dynamic to match the speed of an ever-changing world and eventually direct it to a better fate.
