Coming from a background where girls aren't encouraged to study much, Jyoti studied with grit and has become a government teacher, balancing her personal and work life efficiently.

Jyoti Jain is a Senior Government Teacher posted in the Govt. Girls’ Sr. Sec. School, Tidi village, Udaipur.

Jyoti was born and brought up in Banswara district of Rajasthan. Growing up, she never imagined herself to be a teacher. But after doing B.Sc and M.Sc, she later pursued B.Ed and during her B.Ed, her teacher inspired her and she was eventually driven towards teaching.

After Jyoti completed her education, she got married. For some initial time, she was busy with her family responsibilities but when she was a little relieved of her duties, she decided to put her education to good use and started preparing for the post of Government Teacher. She cleared the exam in 2012, and got posted as a Third-Grade Science Teacher at the Tidi Government School. She was later promoted to the post of Second-Grade Teacher and has been teaching there since then.

The major hurdles faced by Jyoti during her journey were multifold. Firstly, her posting very far from Udaipur City and traveling this far everyday did not seem feasible to her. Secondly her son was very young at the time and managing her time was also quite difficult for her. At this point, she even thought of quitting the job as she never intended to do it for the money but for the service. But eventually her staff members and her husband supported her and she finally decided that she will continue. Once her husband was posted to another city which created a problem but they somehow managed and one year later, he again came back to Udaipur.

Due to her school being a part of the tribal-belt, Jyoti says that students are generally under-performing especially in Science. So to produce a good result, she put in more effort by dividing students in groups based on their ability to grasp and by overseeing individual development of students.

Jyoti says, the COVID period was devastating for the students and the education system as a whole. She says while students suffered losing touch with regular studies, the teachers had extra duties of helping out the administration with the situation. She says teachers are still doing the extra duties but the real sufferers are the students whose education was hindered for a whole year.

Jyoti’s father is her role model. He has supported her in every endeavour of her life and kept on inspiring her during her highs and lows. She is also very much inspired by her husband who has been a constant supporter of her in managing work-life balance.

Apart from work, Jyoti loves cooking and with it, knowing about various dishes from around the world and their origins too. She likes reading and traveling too.
