A traditional Mizhavu drummer of the Koodiyattam art form, Jinesh has been teaching and performing his family's traditional art form.

Jinesh P. Chakyar, popularly known as Nepathya Jinesh among the art community, is a Koodiyattam artist. He also teaches how to play the “Mizhavu” at “Nepathya Koodiyattam Institute.

Jinesh was born and brought up in the village of Moozhikulam in Kerala. He completed his schooling at small schools situated in nearby villages. Later, he went to Sri Shankara College in Kalady. He received a postgraduate degree in commerce.

Describing his journey so far, Jinesh says he belongs to a family of "Chakyars,” who traditionally practice Koodiyattam art. Although his mother is a Koodiyattam actress and his father is a male actor, they do not perform on stage. At the age of fifteen, he started learning to play the Mizhavu instrument used in Koodiyattam. He joined "Nepathya,” an institute of Koodiyattam, as a Mizhavu teacher. He has been exploring, teaching, and learning the fields of Mizhavu, Koodiyattam, and Pathakam.

Speaking about his challenges, Jinesh says he faced time management issues with his academics and learning about Koodiyattam. There was pressure on him from his family to join Koodiyattam. But, he says, Koodiyattam is an art to which you must devote 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That's why it is not possible to do a job along with Koodiyattam. His family was initially hesitant when he decided to pursue the art full-time, but they eventually understood and supported his decision.

When asked about his role models, Jinesh says he considers Margi Madhu Chakyar, the director of the “Nepathya” institute, and his Guru Ratheesh Bhas Kalamandalam as his role models. He is inspired by their dedication and passion for art and their teaching style.

In his spare time, Jinesh likes to listen to Carnatic music. He also enjoys watching cricket and tennis. He also likes to watch Koodiyattam performances by other artists to learn from them.

Jinesh says whenever he performs well, he enjoys his inner peace. When he feels his performance has not met his expectations, he takes a two-day break to recharge.

Jinesh advises new students who are eager to master Koodiyattam to dedicate themselves to their teacher. All their questions about what, how, and when will be guided and addressed by their gurus.

JInesh’s life goes with the mantra, "Do what makes you happy, and you will be content."
