Jay started his creative journey quite randomly at the age of eighteen. He started writing music but realised it wasn’t good enough to release. Thus, he worked on his art consistently, and finally, in 2019, he released his first single track ‘Dead’. This was followed by two more tracks - ‘Suicide Note’ and ‘Alone’. The latter was signed by Hungama for ArtistAloud Unplugged. Jay released many single tracks before launching an album. In January 2021, he released a full-fledged album having a jukebox, music videos, 3D videos of each song, photoshoots, and album art. The album received positive feedback and got featured by Rolling Stones.
Jay developed an interest in Direction and Cinematography when he held a Handycam for the first time in 2008. It intrigued him immensely, and he made a short horror film for the first time. Jay insisted his parents get him a camera to make tech review videos. Those videos garnered him market recognition. Jay enjoyed making videos and decided to pursue a career in filmmaking. So, after his intermediate, he moved to Mumbai to study filmmaking. Initially, it was hard for Jay to find work since he lacked connections within the industry. Gradually, he got assistant direction work in Yash Raj Studios. It was during this time Jay decided on making music independently. Thus, he quit that job and started his own production house.
Under his production label, Jay worked on many editing projects. He started building contacts, and with the help of a friend got connected to many hip-hop artists. Jay’s first collaboration was with the artist, Jay Kila for the music video ‘Mere Paas Maal Hai’. His second collaboration was with 7Bantai’Z on a couple of projects. Then, Jay did a music video, ‘Shauq Nahi’ starring Yungsta and FrappeAsh and featuring MC Altaf for ZEE Music Company as a director, director of photography, editor, and colorist. Later, he also collaborated with the artist Thoratt. He is happy to collaborate with multiple artists and to have contributed to their journeys.
Jay developed an interest in cinematography and direction while making tech review videos. His videos started getting good responses, and it encouraged him to learn about documentaries, watch world cinema, and understand the work of renowned cinematographers and directors. The experience of world cinema and world-renowned filmmakers helped him explore his unique style of filmmaking. Thus, Jay believes that, as an artist, it is beneficial to watch the works of other artists.
Furthermore, Jay believes that Youtube is a very good platform to learn and gain a creative vision. He also feels that a good and creative circle is like a learning space. Therefore, Jay's advice to all the upcoming artists is to; be proud of their work, watch and learn from other artists, stand out in the market and build contacts, and remain motivated in tough times.
Jay’s favourite projects include a music video, ‘Shauq Nahi’ that he did in collaboration with artists like MC Altaf, Full Power (Youngsta and FrappeAsh), his single track ‘Suicide Note’, among others.
Jay feels inspired by the wisdom and sayings of Sadhguru and by the American actor and rapper Jaden Smith. He looks up to Jaden Smith and wants to become like him.
Jay listens and learns from the music of other artists when free. He also likes to dance, draw, and engage in conversations.
His message to all aspiring artists is to trust their vision and have faith in their creation.
