Jasleen Aulakh is a professional singer. She is a firm believer in music's capacity to stir up feelings and reach people's hearts. Jasleen aspires to write songs with messages that are both meaningful to listeners and compelling to them. Her partnership with her mother will hopefully continue to inspire others and have a positive long-term effect on the music business.
Describing her journey, Jasleen says that although everyone in her family was fond of music, there were no professional musicians in her family. But, somehow, music attracted her, and from an early age, she wanted to be a singer. She remembers composing a song out of a school poem when she was just six years old, holding primitive equipment.
Jasleen wanted to pursue music professionally, but she was having trouble telling her family. Despite her academic shortcomings, she earned her Masters in French at her mother's encouragement. Jasleen's mother, however, was the one to ask her if she was interested in music or something in the field of French. She then publicly began pursuing music as a career. Jasleen laments that she would have started her singing career sooner if she had acknowledged and stated her goal earlier.
Jasleen recalls that her mother and Nani—two powerful and independent women—were primarily responsible for raising her during her formative years. They also ingrained in her the notion that women are capable of anything and are independent of men. She was always given the go-ahead to travel by her mother.
Jasleen gradually came to the realization that singing only covers would not help her advance much. She started writing songs that were entirely original to her. She now only performs wholly original music. She was inspired when her folk song "Chamba" was featured in a movie. Another of her songs, "Qyun Jaage," was featured in the film "Bawari Chhori." One of her tracks was also used by renowned designer Manish Malhotra for his most recent line.
According to Jasleen, her music is suddenly getting attention. On social media, she receives praise from people all around the world. She composes the music, and her mother provides the lyrics. Producer Aman Nath, whom she considers to be a brother, has greatly aided her in creating her compositions.
Jasleen believes that even though digitization has made music creation easier, live recordings are still preferable. She believes that some of the intricate musical nuance is lost in computerized works. She believes that the emotion and authenticity of live recordings cannot be replicated.
Jasleen’s message to budding musicians is that any form of art is a true blessing. She says, Don’t let people hold you back; you must follow your dreams. Jasleen emphasizes the importance of staying true to oneself and not compromising artistic integrity for the sake of commercial success. She encourages aspiring musicians to explore their own unique style and express their emotions through their music.
