Jamnesh turned his passion into his profession despite the difficult and challenging journey that lay ahead. Today, he owns a salon, keeps himself updated on the latest trends, and still desires to learn more.

Jamnesh Sen is a leading hairdresser in Udaipur and the Creative Director at Champion Hair & Colour. He is the second person in Rajasthan to obtain the Colour Diploma Degree from Loreal Academy Mumbai in 2011.

Jamnesh faced a lot of struggles right from his childhood. When he was five years old, his father passed away. Though his elder brother was like a father figure to him, and he and their mother tried their best to give proper education and livelihood to all the members of his family, on seeing his brother handling everything, he decided to quit his education to support his family financially.

Jamnesh says that he was a good student; he even topped the class in sixth grade but had to drop out after tenth grade due to family issues. In 1995, he joined his family's business in his village only for hairdressing. He started learning from the village itself but was not satisfied, and due to a lack of exposure, he came to Udaipur for a better future.

For freshmen, Jamnesh says that hard work is a must. An individual should be willing to learn new things every day and should be interested in this field. When he used to work in the village, fifty paise was the amount they charged for haircuts and shaves. But today, the scenario is completely different. The competition is really tough in this field, but education and experience can do wonders.

Jamnesh compares the past to the present by noting that in the past, people used to come just to cut their hair short, but today people come for a haircut to look stylish. Also, nowadays, when they enter the salon, they get a hair wash, and after a haircut, they can walk out anywhere, including parties and functions or even their workplace. Jamnesh and his team do hair cuts by observing customers’ hair texture and face cuts.

Jamnesh shares that he has participated in several competitions, even at the national level, to groom himself in a better way. He says the preparation period used to be very tough. He had to wake up early in the morning for practice and even stayed after salon hours, and sometimes he even missed the salon for practice sessions.

When asked about his role models, Jamnesh’s inspiration is Mr. Kamlesh, who encourages him to be determined and focused, motivates him to keep learning what’s new, and advises him to be crystal clear with his ideas and words.

Lockdown was a tough period for everyone. Even though Jamnesh faced some work issues, the positive thing is that he got to spend an ample amount of quality time with his family. He even learned to cook during this time.

If Jamnesh ever gets a chance to go back in time, he would want to go back to the year 2000, when they started Champion Salon, and pursue more courses related to his field. He says that if he had taken those courses earlier, he would have reached great heights.

According to Jamnesh, the hairdressing line is very lucrative. Hard work is a must for growth, and continuous learning can ease the path. He then says that this profession is not at all boring for him because every day before going to the salon, he plans for something new to do with his art. Also, they make time-to-time modifications based on the requirements of clients. By collecting experiences and learning new things, he is brilliantly taking his team forward.
