Despite hailing from a family of civilians, Jai from the very beginning had always been inspired by the Indian Army and its personnel. He has written many poems on the Army and the Army men who laid down their lives for the nation, as his ode to them.

Jai Samota is a student and a writer. He primarily writes about Military history and has penned a book on all the twenty-one Param Vir Chakra winners.

Jai was born in Nagda, MP, and brought up in Badi Sadri, Chittorgarh. He studied till tenth grade in Chittorgarh itself. And then he moved to Bhilwara and did his high school at Sangam School of Excellence there. Currently, he is pursuing an M.Sc. in Computer Science from BN University in Udaipur.

Recollecting his childhood, Jai says that he had a typical childhood. Unlike other kids, from the very beginning, he was interested in the Indian Army and watching the National Geographic channel on TV. He would be fascinated by the Army and its personnel. Whenever he would catch the sight of any soldier, be it on the train or anywhere, he would go up to the soldier and talk to him to know about the Army. Besides, he says that he was an introverted kid growing up, but started mingling up with people and his fellow students during his high school years. Further, he is also reminiscent of hearing stories about the Army from his high school Hockey coach who was a retired Army man.

Jai shares that he first started writing in 2018 and his writings have been recognized by the former chief of the army staff late General Bipin Rawat and also defense minister Rajnath Singh. He has written around sixty poems and is currently writing a biography of Major Shaitan Singh who was decorated with Param Vir Chakra for his sacrifice in the 1962 war.

Talking about his achievements, Jai says that his first poem titled “Parmvir”  was posted by the Army on their social media page and it was a huge inspiration for him. Besides, not being well versed in Hindi and still being able to write his poems in the Hindi language, is also an achievement for him.

Jai acknowledges that his parents, teachers, and friends have immensely supported him in his writing journey thus far. Deepak Surana, who wrote a biography on Capt. Vikram Batra, who happens to be his friend, has inspired him a lot to write the biography that he is currently working on, Jai says.

When asked about his role models, Jai says that there are many Army men who inspire him a lot. Late Vikram Batra’s slogan, “Yeh Dil Mange More”, inspires him the most, he says.

If he could go back in time via a Time Machine, Jai would like to go back to the time when he was in high school and want to relive it as it was a nice and carefree period of his life. Besides, he would want to meet Major Shaitan Singh and Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, if he could go back in time.

In his leisure time, Jai likes to interact with people, his friends, and his family members. Besides, he also likes to catch up on his sleep in his free time.

Jai advises people to pause for a while when things don’t seem to work out instead of just keep pushing.

To the youth, Jai advises them to become sincere in life and use their time sagaciously.  Besides, he advises them to live each moment in its entirety rather than just capture it in pictures.
