Jagmohan Gupta is a renowned engineer and a celebrated member of the Udaipur community.
Born in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, in the year 1939, Jagmohan is now a retired engineer. He did his engineering in mining at MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur, in 1961. Later on, he appeared for a management certification exam with 200 other candidates. At that time, this exam was mandatory to pass for working in coal fields. Only 45 candidates passed the test, and he was among them, and he did it in his first attempt.
Thereafter, Jagmohan worked in a coal mine for three years and later joined the Sawai Madhopur Cement Factory for one year. He then came to Udaipur, and there he completely shifted his field from mining to plant management. He worked at Udaipur Cement Works for thirty years and was responsible for the erection and modernization of the plant.
Jagmohan remembers his interest in playing tennis. After passing his intermediate exam, he was free for one year as he was underage to take admission into an engineering college. That entire year, he devoted himself to tennis, and even during his college days, he was very passionate about tennis. During his two-month summer vacations in college, students were required to go to mines for training purposes. He shares that he once went to a coal mine in the Bengal region. The employees there had to walk for 2 km each for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, vegetarian food was rare; they only got aloo, puri, and sometimes curd as a vegetarian diet.
When asked about his role models, Jagmohan says that he is still very grateful to his superior, under whom he took training at coal mines after engineering. He is still in touch with him, and he never forgets to wish him a happy birthday.
During the lockdown, Jagmohan was completely confined to his house. He had a great time with his children and grandchildren.
Jagmohan has a small library at his place and often spends time reading. He believes in moving forward with the generation and developing technology.
Jagmohan believes that humans do learn from experiences, but they alone are not sufficient to achieve greatness. Speaking about himself, he acknowledges that he wasn't a hardworking or studious person, but due to his strong concentration skills and powerful memory, he achieved success.
For success, he advises everyone to be sincere in their work. You should never lose your focus and concentration on your work, and with that, your growth is confirmed, says Jagmohan.
