Indira Pancholi is a social researcher.
Indira hails from Ajmer. She completed her schooling from government schools in Ajmer. She did a Masters in Social Sciences from Government College in Ajmer itself.
Indira shares that after completing her masters, she delved into the field of social research to discover herself. She was always interested in learning about different social structures, and how local economies impact the economy of the country as a whole. She spent close to five years in a small village in Rajasthan to understand the social and cultural economy of that place and do an analytical study on it.
Talking about what drove her to work in the social sector, Indira says that in our country’s social structure there’s an unequal distribution of resources. She always wanted to utilize her education in creating opportunities for those who can’t get an education. Besides, she says that her father, who hailed from a village and who completed an MA and then a P.hD. beating all hurdles, always emphasized that she got a good education.
Indira shares that after completing her masters, she got an opportunity to participate in a conference of women which witnessed the participation of women from different walks of life. She says the whole agenda of the conference was how to empower women in the patriarchal system of society. Later, she also got to work in sixty different gram panchayats of Ajmer to empower the women there.
After working in the social sector for many years, Indira created a group of women to empower marginalized women and raise voices against the violence against them. For the past ten years, she has been doing social research and also documenting her research to eradicate inequalities in society by forming relevant policies.
Indira advises people that instead of just working in self-interest they should work for the benefit of all and to bring equality to society. Besides, she says that if we have the zeal to do something then things automatically fall into place as we progress.
Talking about her role models, Indira says that she has many role models. She considers the women from the village she worked in as her role models. To name a few, Bhanwari Bai and Vardi Bai Bheel are some of her role models.
To the youth, Indira advises them to have dreams and then work hard to achieve them. Besides, she also advises them to create their own network of people to be able to make an impact on a larger scale. Further, she also urges them to raise their voices against the ills in society.
