Hritisha Rewadia is popularly known as ‘The Opera Queen of Rajasthan.’ She says that five years ago, when Opera was introduced in Rajasthan, then not much audience was found for this as people’s mindset about it was not so good and they did not consider shouting as an art or a form of music. But gradually, people’s perception changed towards it and now it is being accepted in India.
Hritisha says that since childhood, she was very fond of singing, especially Indian Classical Music and always participated in singing competitions in school and also won them. As singing had always been her passion, she thought of making her career in it. She contacted Shaiphali Saxena, who introduced Hritisha to different music cultures of the world. That’s when she came to know about Opera and was pulled towards it.
Hritisha belongs to Jaipur, Rajasthan. She did her studies from there itself. She says that she was not good at studies at all and could hardly pass any class. Nevertheless, in 11th class, she thought of becoming a Doctor like every other child. But, at the behest of her parents, in 12th grade, she chose Music as her career and then she left her studies and could not even pass 12th. At that time, her batchmates and relatives always thought that she would never be able to do anything in life. And today, she performs in the same batchmate’s colleges and teaches them about music. She is a lecturer and very soon she is going to get her PhD degree because of her research in ‘Kidney Voices’.
Talking about challenges, Hritisha says that taking training in and learning Opera was very challenging for her because singing Opera was not easy at all. Due to this, she used to suffer a lot of swelling in her rib cage and internal muscles for controlling them for too long. In order to stay fit, she had to exercise and do planks for half-an-hour.
Regarding her achievements, Hritisha says that in collaboration with Shaiphali Saxena and other singers and lyricists, she had composed a song, which earned a lot of fame and was also awarded by ‘The Dadasaheb Phalke Award’. She is the first singer from Rajasthan, who won that award and it is the biggest achievement of her life. In addition, she has won several other awards for this song like the Paris International Underground Music Award and an award at the Mumbai International Film Festival. She was also conferred with the ‘India’s Finest Opera and Western Singer Award’ from Countrywide Impact Award. Apart from this, after the title, ‘Opera Queen of Rajasthan’, she was given the title ‘The Opera Queen of India’ by MESE, Central Government.
When asked about her mistakes, Hritisha says that after just one-and-a-half years of training in music, she wanted to do something to earn money and prove herself but her parents and teachers saved her from going astray and because of that, today she has made a great career out of music and reached a very good position at such a young age.
Hritisha considers her parents and her teachers, especially, Shaiphali Saxena as her role models as they have supported her a lot at every phase of her life and are very hardworking. She learned teamwork from them. Her brother is also her role model because he always encourages and supports her.
Hritisha advises the younger generation that if you choose any field, study as much as it is necessary to pursue it and complete the training period to know everything about it.
Being loyal to yourself is Hritisha’s mantra for Success. She says that no matter how many opinions people give you, the final decision should be yours. Other than that, keep doing your work with a sincere heart and do what you like, not what society wants you to do.
Hritisha suggests that there is immense scope in Music but before coming into it, don’t come with a mindset that there is a lot of struggle in this field. Because there are many ways to earn in this field even by sitting at home, if you are a good musician.
