From advancing scientific research to preserving Mewar's rich heritage, Prof. Dr. Vimal Sharma has dedicated his life to education and selfless service. The retired professor from Udaipur now inspires society through his work in cultural preservation, environmental awareness, and community welfare.

Prof. (Dr.) Vimal Sharma, President of the Lok Jan Seva Sansthan, the Thakur Amar Chand Badwa Prashan Samiti, and the Udaipur Sthapana Samaroh Samiti in Udaipur, Rajasthan, is a distinguished Educationist, Scientist, and Social Reformer who has dedicated his life to preserving the rich heritage, culture, and values of the Mewar region of Rajasthan.

After retiring from an illustrious academic career spanning more than four decades, including serving as Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, he has devoted his post-retirement years entirely to social service. Today, through his leadership and unwavering commitment, he continues to inspire society by promoting cultural preservation, environmental awareness, community welfare, and nation-building.

One of his major contributions is through the Lok Jan Seva Sansthan, formerly known as Mewar Jan Seva Sansthan. The organization is dedicated to preserving the traditions, history, culture, and values of Mewar. For nearly a decade, it has been publishing a cultural magazine that documents the region's rich heritage. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the magazine was published monthly and continues to reach nearly 500 members, while also being available online. Through articles on history, cultural narratives, and informative features, the publication serves as an important archive of Mewar's traditions for present and future generations.

The organization also celebrates the Jayanti of Sir Shri Maharana Bhupal Singh Bahadur, by honouring individuals from diverse fields—including education, sports, literature, administration, and social service—who have brought pride to Mewar. These recognition ceremonies encourage and inspire people of all ages to contribute meaningfully to society.

Beyond cultural initiatives, Lok Jan Seva Sansthan regularly organizes cleanliness drives, medical camps, tree plantation campaigns, Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, and several other public welfare programmes that promote community participation and social responsibility.

Through the Thakur Amar Chand Badwa Prashan Samiti, Dr. Sharma is committed to bringing recognition to one of Mewar's forgotten heroes, Thakur Amar Chand Badwa. According to Dr. Vimal Sharma, after the Marathas suffered defeat in the historic Battle of Shipra, invading forces advanced towards Debari with the intention of capturing the Mewar region.

It was the strategic vision and leadership of Thakur Amar Chand Badwa that strengthened the city's defences by restoring the fortifications, repairing the protective structures, installing cannons, and successfully preventing enemy forces from entering Mewar for nearly six months, ultimately forcing them to retreat. To preserve this remarkable legacy, the organization conducts seminars, historical lectures, exhibitions, and commemorative events. One of its landmark achievements was organizing a National Seminar, presided over by Maharana Mahendra Singh Mewar, during which a book highlighting Thakur Amar Chand Badwa's invaluable contribution to Mewar's history was officially released.

As the President of the Udaipur Sthapana Samaroh Samiti, Dr. Vimal Sharma also plays a key role in organizing the annual Udaipur Foundation Celebrations, conducted jointly with the Municipal Corporation. The three-to-four-day celebration commemorates the founding of Udaipur, showcasing its glorious history, cultural legacy, and architectural heritage while instilling a deep sense of pride among its citizens.

Professor Dr. Sharma strongly believes that every individual owes a lifelong debt to their birthplace. He often encourages people to reflect on a simple yet powerful question: "What have I contributed to my society and my nation?" This philosophy continues to guide his mission of preserving Mewar's heritage while inspiring others to dedicate themselves to the service of society.

Born in 1957 in Udaipur, Rajasthan, Dr. Vimal grew up in a disciplined and academically enriching environment. His primary education up to Class 5 was completed at St. Mary's Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. Along with his seven siblings, he travelled to school by bus every day, an experience that taught him discipline, punctuality, and togetherness from an early age.

He later studied from Class 6 to Class 11 at St. Paul's School, Udaipur, where the full-day schooling system from morning until evening played a significant role in shaping his personality. He credits his teachers for laying a strong educational foundation and encouraging him to participate actively in extracurricular activities alongside academics.

HoD Biotechnology Dr. Vimal Sharma pursued his Bachelor of Science in ‘Pure Science’ from M.B. College, Udaipur. Like many young students, he was uncertain about his career after graduation. His turning point came when he learned about the prestigious Biochemistry Department at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, one of India's leading centres for biochemical research. He successfully competed with students from across the country and secured admission among the top seven candidates.

After completing his M.Sc., he initially considered establishing a laboratory or joining the industrial sector. However, an advertisement published in the Times of India opened a new opportunity. He applied for a Ph.D. programme at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, one of India's premier medical research institutes, and was selected.

Upon completing his doctorate, Dr. Vimal Sharma began his teaching career at the same institute before steadily rising through the ranks. Over the years, he became an Associate Professor, later Professor and Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur, and subsequently served as Dean in an affiliated college. Even after retirement, his passion for education continued as he served for three more years as a re-employed professor at the Veterinary College, Vallabhnagar.

His academic excellence also earned him the opportunity to undertake three-and-a-half years of advanced research in Germany, providing him with valuable international scientific exposure.

Despite achieving remarkable professional success, Social Worker Prof. (Dr.) Vimal Sharma remains deeply rooted in his culture and values. He believes that education should create not only skilled professionals but also responsible citizens. His love for literature has inspired him to write more than one hundred poems, many of which have been published in magazines.

Nature and Environmental Conservation occupy a special place in his heart. His poetry reflects his concern for ecological balance and humanity's responsibility toward protecting nature.

One of his widely appreciated environmental verses reads:

"हरियाली धरा की छीन रहे निज स्वार्थी मनुष्य सारे,

वन काट रहे, जल बाँट रहे, नभ धूम-घटा से भर डाले।

निर्झर, सरिता, वन, पीड़ा के दुख से हारे,

अब भी चाहो तो संरक्षण करो, वरना होंगे दिन दुखियारे।"

Interestingly, Educator Dr. Vimal Sharma does not believe that inspiration comes from only one individual. According to him, every sincere person, every dedicated worker, and every meaningful organization has something valuable to teach to us.

He believes that institutions become great not because of buildings or positions but because of the collective efforts, honesty, and commitment of the people associated with them. This belief has shaped his own leadership style throughout his career. Dr. Sharma's path demonstrates that determination can overcome even the toughest obstacles.

One of his earliest challenges came during his admission to M.Sc. at Vadodara. After receiving a letter informing him that the admission formalities had to be completed by the very next day, he rushed to the railway station but unfortunately missed his train. Instead of giving up, he remained determined and somehow managed to reach Vadodara in time. Upon arrival, another hurdle awaited him—his official B.Sc Degree Certificate had not yet been issued, which was mandatory for admission. With the support of university authorities, who issued written confirmation of his successful completion of the degree, he secured admission and later figured in the toppers..

Later, he accepted an opportunity to pursue Postdoctoral Research in Germany, which required leaving behind a secure academic position. During his stay, circumstances changed unexpectedly, delaying his career progression. However, he remained patient and eventually continued his academic path successfully.

As Dean, he encountered another major challenge while planning a new academic building. Instead of demanding a completely new structure, he convinced the authorities to intelligently integrate the existing infrastructure with new construction. Today, the final building stands as an excellent example of visionary planning, with visitors unable to distinguish between the old and newly developed sections. Dr. Vimal Sharma believes that challenges are inevitable, but success depends upon one's determination to find solutions rather than excuses.

Dr. Vimal Sharma has achieved numerous milestones throughout his distinguished career. He earned a Ph.D. from one of India's premier research institutes and built a successful academic career in Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He became Professor, Head of Department, and later Dean, holding significant leadership positions at a relatively young age. He also completed advanced research in Germany, contributing to international scientific collaboration.

Even after retirement, he continued teaching as a re-employed professor, reflecting his lifelong commitment to education. Beyond academics, he has successfully led multiple social organizations dedicated to preserving Mewar's heritage, promoting public welfare, documenting regional history, organizing national seminars, publishing cultural magazines, and honouring individuals who have brought pride to the region.

As a poet, he has written more than 100 published poems, especially focusing on environmental awareness and social values. Among the honours he cherishes most is receiving the opportunity to be considered for the prestigious position of Vice-Chancellor, which he regards as recognition of his lifelong dedication to education and research.

Prof. Dr. Vimal Sharma believes that success begins with clarity of thought. According to him, every individual should have a clear vision, remain determined, and never compromise on principles for temporary gains. Shortcuts may offer quick results, but lasting success comes only through honesty, discipline, perseverance, and continuous learning.

He also believes in the immense power of the human mind. As a Healer and student of Universal Consciousness, he often says that the human brain is the greatest instrument in existence. Positive thoughts create positive energy, while a negative mindset limits human potential. He encourages people to develop positive vibrations, trust the universe, and work sincerely towards their goals.

Social Reformer Dr. Vimal Sharma also emphasizes the importance of environmental conservation. He believes that if every individual plants and nurtures at least one tree every year, together we can create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable nation. According to him, protecting nature today is the greatest gift we can give to future generations.

Former Dean & HoD of Molecular Biology Prof. (Dr.) Vimal Sharma believes that success begins with a clear vision and a determined mindset. He advises young people to first decide what they truly want to achieve and then work towards it with complete dedication and honesty. According to him, challenges and failures are a part of every journey, but they should never become a reason to stop. Instead of looking for shortcuts or compromising with one's values, a person should remain patient, disciplined, and focused on the goal.

In his view, when determination is strong and intentions are sincere, every obstacle becomes an opportunity to learn and grow.
