Himanshu Rai is a telecom engineer and writer in Noida.
Himanshu was born and brought up in Sagar, and he completed his education there. As a kid, he was always passionate about writing stories, doing plays, and acting. His first poem was published when he was in the fifth grade.
Himanshu shares that after completing high school, he pursued engineering at Khalsa Engineering College, Jabalpur. Then he got a job in the telecommunications industry. He says that after getting a job, he got married, and for a while, his passion for writing took a back seat. After a few years in his job, he started picking up writing again. He would write but keep his writings to himself only. His wife suggested he publish his writings. He got his first book, entitled "Recollecting the End," published. He received a good response for his first book. Hence, he continued writing, and to date, he has added five books to his portfolio. He is soon going to release his new book entitled “You're Still the One".
Talking about his childhood, Himanshu says that his grandfather was a freedom fighter and a doctor. Later, he got into politics and served as an MLA. He lived with a joint family. As kids, he and his cousins would be inspired to write and act, besides sports and games. They would present their plays in front of the family. They would have to write their own plays, and this is what first sowed the seed of a writer in him. He started writing poetry, and some of it was published in newspapers too. He also got a chance to narrate his poems on All India Radio.
Himanshu finds that writing every day helps him unwind. Besides, he likes to do podcasts. He also has two YouTube channels where he narrates motivational and technical stories.
Talking about his journey, Himanshu says that, as a kid, he was not good at studying. But when he entered college, he became disciplined and serious about his studies and career. He passed engineering with flying colors. After completing his engineering degree, he got a campus placement as a marketing executive at a company based in Delhi. He went to Delhi but realized that that job was falsely presented to him during the interview and that the reality was entirely different, so he decided not to join it. Later, he met two brothers who worked for a telecommunications company. But he joined that job anyway, as he was on the lookout for a job. He would work on the ground laboriously. He would travel to cities for his work.
Miraculously, he got a better job opportunity with better pay, and he joined that job. Then he got to work at Hutch, Nokia, etc. Today, after having strived for all those years, he is working with a respectable organization and is performing really well professionally.
Himanshu’s role models are his grandfather and parents, who always taught him to have a positive attitude in every situation in life. Besides, he also acknowledges the support he receives from his wife.
Himanshu advises the youth that it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should only start working when you get a good and comfortable job. At the initial stage of your career, you should focus more on experience than on anything else, as it is the experience that counts in the long run and not the luxury or comfort of your job.
Talking about his mistakes, Himanshu says that he started his professional career right after his graduation without any proper planning. Besides, he also considers pausing to write for a long time a mistake.
Advising aspirants in his field, Himanshu advises engineering graduates that they must focus on developing themselves and their knowledge holistically, along with being thorough with their subject matter and relevant technical skills. Besides, for aspiring writers, he advises that initially, one should pursue writing as a passion along with a job, as it takes time to establish oneself as a writer and earn money out of writing. In addition, he says that writing is not something that comes from your mind; it is something that comes from your heart.
The quote that motivates and inspires him is, ‘Whatever happens, happens for good.’
If given a time machine to go back in time, Himanshu would want to go back to his school days and make more friends and enjoy that time, as he was more of a shy kid and could not open up with his friends. He would also want to relive his college days and enjoy that period more.
In his free time, Himanshu likes to spend time with his family and play with his kids. He also likes to sing songs for his daughter and watch movies. He loves to travel by car with his friends.
