Born into a family of musicians, Hidayat started learning and practicing music from an early age. He has had an opportunity to collaborate with various famous artists throughout his journey.

Hidayat Husain Khan is a Musician, a Sitar player to be precise. He is the seventh generation of his family into music.

Hidayat was born into a family of musicians in Dehradun. He says that he has done his schooling in various parts of the world like Dehradun, India, the UK, and more.

Recalling his childhood memories, Hidayat says that his childhood was quite interesting. Coming from a family of musicians, his career was already decided before he was even born, he says. He further adds that during his childhood, he did have an education and also had friends, but his life mostly revolved around music. He did his very first concert at the age of nine, and has been performing since the time he didn’t even know what profession means, says Hidayat.

Talking about his journey, Hidayat says that his journey has been very musical. He says that growing up in a family of musicians, he was always surrounded by amazing minds. He says that through his father’s journey, he has learned that the most important thing in music is to be true to yourself. He further adds that it took him a long time to find his way in music and the journey has been quite interesting.

Regarding mistakes, Hidayat says that music is a journey where you travel in directions that you never imagined. In this sense, he has made several mistakes but as far as human mistakes are concerned, he says that he makes mistakes, learns from them, and tries not to repeat any mistake.

Speaking about his achievements, Hidayat says that he has been fortunate enough to get the opportunity to perform with some of the greatest musical minds. He says that he has collaborated and performed with artists from India and other parts of the world and has been part of various album series. However, the greatest award he has gotten till now is getting appreciation from Ustad Bismillah Khan. Another accomplishment he talks about is seeing the pride for him in his father’s eyes in one of their concerts.

Talking about his role models, Hidayat says that his first and foremost role model is his father. Apart from his father, Bade Gulam Ali Khan, Ustad Amir Khan, and Pandit Bhimsen Joshi have been his inspirations throughout his musical journey.

In his free time, Hidayat loves to cook, travel, spend time with people, watch movies, and do a lot more.

When asked how he  attains peace, Hidayat says that music is something that gives him a lot of peace. Music has had a far superior impact on his life than he ever imagined, he says. Good health, happiness, satisfaction, and entertaining people is what success means to him, says Hidayat.

Advising youngsters, Hidayat says that you should find the magic within you rather than letting society decide what would work best for you.
