Hemant has been passionate about computers and has started his own venture. He believes that in order to succeed in business, one must keep the margins low and focus on increasing turnover. He tries to provide the best services to his customers.

Hemant is the owner of Smart Computers. He hails from Udaipur.

Hemant shares that he started his computer business way back in 1996, when awareness about computers was low and not many people were savvy about computers. Everyone in his family was in the academic field and had jobs, but no one knew anything about business. He, however, had a great interest in business, as all his friends were businessmen. Inspired and encouraged by his friends, he decided to enter business.

Hemant further shares that he wanted to work in the IT industry and went to Ahmedabad to get some knowledge and experience about the computer business. He came back and started his business on a small scale. Gradually, he built it brick by brick. Now that 25 years have passed, he is satisfied with the growth of his business.

Talking about his challenges, Hemant says that initially there were financial constraints because he did not have adequate capital for his business. The next challenge was that the customers in those days were not at all computer-savvy, and he had to train them on the basics like starting and shutting down the system. He remembers that customers bought computers on the condition that he would train them daily for 10–15 days on how to use them.

Hemant shares that as his business and turnover grew, he was able to secure working capital loans from the banks, which helped him a lot in expanding his business. He says that he had to make many sacrifices in order to establish his business. As there were not many skilled IT technicians available for work, he had to work till late himself. Sometimes, during festival season, he and his team worked until 3–4 a.m. in the night and slept for only 3–4 hours to complete the deliveries. Thus, he could not spend much time with his family. However, things improved gradually as the scope and scale of his business grew.

Hemant deals in laptops, various types of customized IT solutions, servers, and networking. He says that nowadays, the demand for desktop computers is very low. He also repairs all types of computers and provides on-site repairs and troubleshooting.

To all the budding aspirants, Hemant advises them to gain good knowledge of the field by updating themselves with the latest technology and products. One may start on a small scale, advertise themselves, and gradually expand.

In his spare time, Hemant likes to indulge in fitness activities such as yoga and swimming.
