Hemant Kumar Sharma is an artist. He also gives lectures at NIFT, Jodhpur. He has been working as an artist for the past fifteen years.
Hemant lives in Jodhpur. His father belongs to Nathdwara, and is a famous fine artist. Hemant had seen an artistic environment in his home since childhood because of his father’s work. Earlier, he used to help his father in Pichwai painting and miniature art. However, initially he didn’t want to enter the field of art and started his journey in the handicraft business, but after COVID, he is completely into the painting field.
Talking about digital media, Hemant says he considers digital media as a boon for the field of art and painting. He has learned oil painting through digital media only. He came in touch with various artists’ work and also promoted his work through digital media.
When asked about his mistakes, Hemant says that earlier he was busy in his own art and stayed away from networking and building relationships with people in his field. But later he understood its importance and focused on networking in his field. Now he has learnt the art of talking to his clients, and understanding their needs, which strengthens his client relationship and increases the client satisfaction level.
When asked about his mentors, Hemant says that no artist can be called his mentor. According to him, an artist has to find his own style by working with many artists. That's why it is difficult for him to name just one mentor. The inspiration of an artist is one or the other old art.
Hemant advises young artists not to depend too much on YouTube videos and read art books to enrich themselves with the knowledge of their field. He says whatever field of art you want to enter into, read the literature of that field and understand its roots. Do not follow a single line of work, keep experimenting and learning a variety of work, so you can develop your clientele. Do not trouble your body by working long hours. Exercise regularly, have breaks in your work and give time to your family and friends.
