Hemant Joshi is a Sculptor and a Sanskrit Teacher in Udaipur.
Hemant finished his education up to the sixth grade in Udaipur itself. He thereafter finished his further education at Mudi, the village of his paternal grandfather. He earned a BA with honours in Drawing and Sanskrit. He painted and collaborated with artists on small pieces since he had an interest in the arts. His mother, who shared his passion in the arts, served as an inspiration for him in the profession.
After graduation, he pursued a B.Ed. before getting a Master Degree in Painting. He developed an attraction to stones throughout his master's programme and began sculpting under Harish Tiwedi's tutelage. He didn't have any family support when he started his career in art, but that changed after he won the State Student Award. In addition, he was given a scholarship and the youth award for his efforts. He also travelled to show off his sculptures at various other exhibitions.
In addition, Vidya Bhawan extended a job opportunity to him for teaching stone and woodwork. He eventually moved to the Sanskrit department, where he is now employed as a teacher of Sanskrit. Additionally, he has been collaborating with the Kashti Foundation and the NFA team for Young Artists.
Hemant began working at Vidya Bahwan in 1994 and spent seventeen and a half years there in the field of education. He also spent eight years working as a hostel warden. He then served as an NCC officer and went to Nagpur for a three-month army training programme. He learned discipline and an understanding of the value of time.
Regarding his accomplishments, Hemant says that his sculptures can be seen at several places, including Adani's Power Plants in Pali and Udaipur, the Kavai Plant in Baran, and in the Mundra Port and Tuna Port plants. He has also spent three months abroad, producing eighteen sculptures in that time single handedly.
He arranged donations totaling more than 50 lakhs to upgrade the facilities at government schools. He was assisted by several individuals and organisations, including the Round Table, Architect Sunil Laddha, the Kashti Foundation, Choksi Heraeus Group, and others. He worked daily during Covid with the Sarpanch and also planted 500 trees from Badi Pal to the Panch headquarters of his village.
Discussing his struggles, Hemant states that at first he had to make large investments and deal with a lot of issues in his profession of sculpture. He saw possibilities in this area and participated in a number of shows after 2005. Although he went through a difficult phase in his life for 12 years, he always acted on his heart's desire to create sculptures. He dislikes living and working with restrictions.
Advising the aspiring artists, Hemant tells them that if they work patiently, and stay focused on one thing, and persist with it, they will eventually succeed.
He advises the younger generation to set an example for themselves by working towards goals they have in mind.
