Without education, our lives are incomplete.
Without education, our lives are incomplete.
Harish Paliwal is a member of the Advocates’ Bar Association of Udaipur. He has been working for more than three decades to bring up social and economic issues that the backward castes and their children face in society.
Harish lives in Udaipur and is currently working as an advocate, enjoying both his professional and personal life.
Harish’s professional life is a roller-coaster ride with a lot of twists and turns. He started his journey as a theater artist almost thirty years ago. He was one of the youngest artists and actors when he started his career in theater and drama. Harish was very passionate about his profession and did a number of shows on district, state, national, and international live stages.
During his time as a theater artist, he ventured into different roles like anchoring, comedy, full-length, and mime acts on the stage. His best achievement was to play a cameo role in an international movie. Apart from shows, Harish also participated in school, college, and youth festivals. He is also well known for his work in collaboration with the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal. Harish’s dream was to learn dramatics at the National School of Drama, which was left unfinished due to an accident.
Harish’s profession as an actor led him to the world of mass media and communication. One of his friends helped him enter the field of journalism, and today, it has been thirty-two years since Harish became a journalist. His main objectives are to cover the problems faced by the backward castes and the socio-economic issues faced by them, such as child labor and dowry. Harish has also worked with Doordarshan and Aakashvani, along with other government media channels. He was the first anchor of a Udaipur news channel when electronic media was introduced.
The third phase of Harish’s life started while he was pursuing journalism. Harish was advised by a well-known magistrate in Udaipur to pursue law as his subject. Looking at Harish’s point of view towards society and his dedication to make something happen, the magistrate was convinced that Harish would do well if he became an advocate. Fast forward to this day, and Harish is a well-known lawyer and advocate in Udaipur, and he is proud that he is able to help people attain justice. Apart from being a lawyer, he also helped rural women get employment under the government’s rural employment schemes.
Harish feels challenges are a part of everyone’s life, and they always carry some lessons. He too faced a challenge while pursuing his dream as an artist because he had to travel home very late after school, after his rehearsals used to finish in the theater. He also faced a challenge when he had to play on stage with a group of deaf and dumb people, where he had to learn their management and their way of communicating. It was also a big challenge for him to make rural women understand the meaning of ‘self-sustainability’ while he was working with an NGO and provide them with employment. But in every aspect, Harish was always persistent and determined.
Talking about the COVID-19 pandemic, Harish says it was a very difficult period as everyone was confined to their homes and could not even meet their family members. He feels our generation has seen a lot of new diseases and fought against them, but COVID-19 is very different. He feels that if a person is not patient and does not know how to earn and save money, this disease is a disaster for them. He was very sad to see the condition of the migrant workers in the Udaipur Smart City Project, as they did not have any resources to keep them safe from the waves of COVID. He specially urged the management, and also, being a member of the ‘Bal Kalyan Samiti’, he helped children and their parents find shelter.
Speaking about his contribution to society, Harish says every child has a right to education, and people should come forward and help them. He has been constantly working towards the development of children from the unprivileged sections of society and quotes a line said by Swami Vivekananda that “if children are unable to reach the schools, the schools should reach out for them.” He also urges everyone to help someone in need and never walk the path of corruption.
Harish is also a firm believer in the conservation of nature. He has also worked for the conservation of nature, wildlife, and water. He worked under Shri Arvind Singh Mewar and in collaboration with the government, and he has made countless efforts to train the new generation.
In his free time, Harish loves to sing on the social media platform “Starmaker”. He is very proud of the rank he holds on the app and of the appreciation he receives. He also loves to travel and visit natural places that are full of wildlife. He also owns a small garden on his rooftop, which he waters every day, and he is very fond of photography.
If he could go back in time, he would like to revisit his childhood, do theater again, and relive all the fun moments in his life. He would also want to delete the accident that cost him six months of his life and the chance of getting admission to the National School of Drama.
Harish advises people to always work with sincerity and honesty, regardless of the work they do. They should start from the ground and slowly reach the top, but there should be no stops in between, and that’s the key to success. One should not work to earn just money but also to earn the prayers and respect of others that they work for because money can be wasted, but respect will always pay them back.
