Hamida Hakim was born in Udaipur but was raised in Kolkata. She feels nostalgic about her childhood and her schooling there. She did her graduation in B.A. Honours from Loreto House, Kolkata and then she went for B.Ed. After that she worked with an MNC called Dunlop India Ltd for ten years. Then she got married and as her husband was in Kuwait, she went there too and joined Hyundai Car Company. Thereafter she was about to get a job in the oil industry but unfortunately, Saddam Hussain invaded Kuwait and eventually, they had to come back to India.
Hamida says, after coming here, they settled in Udaipur because of the family. She has two kids. Later, she thought of doing something because she was always a career oriented person and didn’t want to sit idle. She came across an advertisement about Eureka Forbes water purifiers’ franchise, where they needed a person to operate from home and she thought it to be a good opportunity. She took it and was able to work and look after her children at the same time. She worked for several years for this franchise but slowly it became taxing for her as she had to go in for audit and had to spend much of her time on such activities due to which she gave up on that job.
Hamida then saw a vacancy ad for the post of English Teacher in Central Academy School. Her husband pushed her to take up that job as those days teaching was good fun and hence she took that job. She worked there for eleven years as a Senior English Teacher and later on she retired from there.
Hamida still wanted to do something and again she came to know about a vacancy for an English Teacher at Titanium English Speaking Institute that she eventually joined.
As far as Covid is concerned, Hamida says it was a break in her career as all the institutions and schools were closed and there was nothing much to do. So she stayed back at home like everyone else and learned cooking and enjoyed time with her family.
Currently, Hamida is working as an English Teacher and Soft-skills trainer in Aviation & Hotel Management Industry where she imparts soft skills to students that helps them in personality development and confidence building.
Hamida’s role model is her uncle who is a director at Binani Industries and right now he is also one of the directors at Wonder Cement. Hamida says he has always worked hard throughout his life and has achieved great heights and success. Although he retired years ago, he is still continuing his work and has helped many to get jobs and hence he is very inspirational.
Hamida says she is very proud of her achievements. When she was leaving Dunlop India Ltd, her boss gave her a farewell letter describing her as an asset to any company she would join and until today she has that letter with her, which she has always been proud of. Also, in her school days she received a lot of recognition and appreciation for her hard work and dedication.
Hamida says she is not a born leader, rather she was very shy as a kid. But with time, as she started joining different institutions and workplaces, she acquired a lot of talents and developed self-confidence along with good leadership qualities.
Hamida advises the newcomers that you should have patience and should be bold and proud of what you do because if you are conscious and nervous, you can never proceed in life. So she suggests them to always be outspoken and express your views openly so that you could never suffer in life and become what you want to become and hence always aim for that.
If Hamida could time travel, she would love to relive her childhood once again.
