Gunjan Gupta is a IFBB Pro bodybuilder and feels that proper training and disciplined life is necessary to get success in this field.

Gunjan Gupta was born in Bhopal. She did her schooling in Bhopal itself. She did her graduation (B.Com.) from Barkatullah University.

Gunjan is an International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness Professional and is an internationally affiliated bodybuilder. She has won nine competitions out of the thirteen she has participated in. She has been in this field for the past four years.

Gunjan says that to become a ‘Pro’, one has to participate and win in several IFBB competitions and after becoming a ‘Pro’ they become eligible to participate in international competitions and represent their country.

Gunjan says that she got married while she was pursuing her MBA which she later completed after having her kids. She also taught in schools and did a job but soon felt that these jobs were not for her.

Gunjan shares that from her school days, she was interested in fitness. After having her first child, she gained a lot of weight. She decided to get rid of it and joined her first gym in 2007-08. Gunjan shares that she lost fourteen kilograms in just six months. After her second baby as well, she lost twelve kilograms. It was then when one of her friends asked her to take the fitness journey more seriously as she was good at it.

Gunjan then researched bodybuilding and convinced her husband to support her in this field. The second tough part was convincing the family on both sides and it took some time but everyone came on board eventually.

In 2017, Gunjan participated in her first competition, Jerai Classic-Mumbai. She says that there were a total of eighty participants and she managed to get the 20th position. It was a big achievement for her to come in top-20 in her first only competition and was a great boost for her.

After three months, she participated in Sheru Classics-Mumbai and got the fourth position in it. After another six months, she participated in a competition in Ludhiana and earned a silver medal in the ‘Women's Figure’ competition.

Gunjan shares that she also kept participating in local competitions in Delhi and used to get second and third positions. She became Mrs. North Delhi in 2018. After that came her very important fight in Bengaluru which was her 12th competition. It was Sheru Classic Bangalore-2019 and winners in each category were to get a ‘Pro’ card after that. She and her trainer, Nikesh Gautam put all their efforts into it.

Gunjan participated in two categories: Women’s Physique and Women’s Figure. She earned a silver in ‘Women’s Physique’ and a gold in ‘Women’s Fitness’ and earned a ‘Pro’ card making her an internationally affiliated bodybuilder.

Gunjan says that apart from bodybuilding, she is also into powerlifting. She has won two out of three competitions she has participated in. She was also into beauty pageants and was Mrs. Delhi in 2014 and also has been Mrs. Pitampura once. She also participated in MasterChef.

Presently, her goal is to participate in ‘Mr. Olympia’ and for that she would have to win two-three international pro competitions and she is rigorously preparing for them.

When asked about her struggles, Gunjan says that the struggle to manage family, children, household chores and then training is very much real. She is also a fitness trainer and says that managing every aspect of life has been a big task for her. The lockdown made it tougher as kids were home all day long. However, she adds that her in-laws and husband have been very supportive and it is because of them that she has been managing everything just fine till now.

When asked about her role models, Gunjan says that her inspiration is her mother who always advised her to never leave anything in between and strive until it is achieved. Gunjan shares that her mother always says that, ‘अगर तुम ठान लो, तारे गगन के तोड़ सकते हो’. Gunjan teaches her kids the same thing.

Talking about her COVID experience, Gunjan shares that when the lockdown happened, she got very tense about her fitness regime. She had some equipment like dumbbells and rods at her home and she turned her balcony into a home gym. She also started training some of her friends from neighboring houses. She used to make Instagram reels and videos and started motivating people.

Gunjan says that her success mantra is to work hard and never give up on anything in life.

Gunjan advises those who want to become IFBB Pro to take proper diet, do proper workout and take a full sleep of ten hours. She says that one should find a good trainer who understands their body.

Recently, Gunjan’s life journey was covered by the ‘Fitness Guru’ Magazine and she considers it as a great achievement in her life.

In her free time, she likes singing and playing the guitar. Her daughter also sings and they make videos as well.
