Gulzar, who comes from a family of musicians, started his training in his own home. After picking his instrument of interest, he trained in it and soon was winning national and state awards. He is now teaching young musicians how to be future musicians.

Gulzar Hussain is a violinist, composer, and performer.

Gulzar says that he comes from a family with a musical background. He is the sixth generation of his family to work in the field of music. From childhood itself, he has been in contact with musical instruments like the tabla, the dholak, etc.

Gulzar says that his grandfather was once gifted a violin, which Gulzar picked up and started learning. He says that his journey started in 1996, when he started learning from Pandit Vinod Sharma and then from other gurus like Rajeev Agarwal and Ustad Banne Khan. After that, he got the opportunity to train under Padma Bhushan V.G. Jog.

In terms of accomplishments, he says he began competing in state-level competitions in 1997 and finished first. He started participating in national level competitions in 2004 and got a national-level scholarship in 2006. After that, he started participating in competitions and performing worldwide. He received the SurMani Award from the Sur Sangam Sansthan in Mumbai, the National Youth Award in Karnataka, the Rajasthan Gaurav Award, and the Jaipur Ratna Award, to name a few. Gulzar says that he has won a total of fifty-two national awards till now. He has also worked for Hollywood movies and serials as well.

When asked about his mistakes, Gulzar says that in the early days of his journey, he desired to achieve fame and fortune quickly but soon realized that it takes time to achieve excellence. Gulzar says he then started practicing more and gained patience in life.

On being asked about his role models, Gulzar says that his father and family members, from whom he has learned in the initial phase of his life, are his role models. Also, he feels that all his gurus till now and all those people who have pointed out his mistakes and provided constructive criticism are his role models.

Gulzar says that hard times are bound to come in life, like the recent pandemic. In such times, he finds peace in his music and tries to innovate in his field to find peace of mind.

Advising the youth, Gulzar says that they should try to find good gurus for themselves and learn with full passion. He also feels that if someone does not have an interest in playing, they should at least try listening to some good music.

Talking about his success mantra in life, Gulzar says that being simple and humble is the key to remaining grounded and being successful in life.
