Gopal was born and raised in Bijolia, a town in the Bhilwara district of Rajasthan. However, he has been settled in Jaipur since 1980.
Recalling his childhood, Gopal says that as a kid he was more inclined toward art than his studies. And due to that his father, a visual artist, started teaching him to paint and draw when he was young. He would draw Elephant and Lord Ganesha’s paintings on people’s walls during their weddings and other celebrations and earn via his painting work. Besides, he says that he worked as an artist in Udaipur for a merchant there for a couple of years, and then in 1980, he moved to Jaipur to further his art skills.
After coming to Jaipur, Gopal started trying his hand at miniature art. Initially, he would work as a copy artist and later with his hard work, he was able to create his identity as a miniature painting artist. Besides, he also worked as a sculptor and learned sculpture art from his relatives in Jaipur. However, his heart always lay in painting and he chose to pursue miniature art as his profession.
Talking about his achievements, Gopal says that he received a state award from the government of Rajasthan for his feat as an artist. Besides, the Maharana Mewar Foundation in Udaipur also felicitated him for his work of drawing the portrait of Maharana Pratap on a mustard seed.
To aspiring miniature artists, Gopal tells them that learning miniature art requires patience and time. Therefore, he advises them to remain patient in their pursuit as miniature artists. Besides, he advises them to solely focus on their work and pursue it dedicatedly.
When asked about his role models, Gopal says that his father is his only role model and guru. Besides, he takes his inspiration from himself and doesn’t really need motivation from any external source, he says.
His Success Mantra is to work well to earn well.
To the youth, Gopal advises them that there is no substitute for hard work, and with hard work, one can achieve everything one wants.
